Welcome to Gaia! ::

Hello and welcome to Mythology Trivia! Now, like most games, this one has rules and I expect all players to read those rules and abide by them, if for no other reason than to keep a modicum of decorum amongst the players and to keep the thread from devolving into chaos.

This game is pretty simple, it's all about knowing your mythology, and not just greek or roman, mythology from any culture and time! Your questions can be complex and cross cultures (i.e. What does the Aztec god of seeding and planting have in common with the Celtic god whose name means "Lord" or "Master" wink or they can be simple questions about names, domains or relationships (i.e. What is the name of the Chinese creator god typically portrayed as a tiger?).

Now in this type of game, obviously, everyone has the internet at their fingertips, and I'm hardly going to tell people not to use it, but if you think you know the answer, go ahead and guess it. If you're wrong, then you can still look up the answer.

Rules:

1. You are ONLY allowed to post a trivia question if you have gotten the one before it right. The person who posted the question before you must verify your answer, even if you're 100% positive you got it right.

2. If you post an answer that is not the one the questioner is looking for, but is also acceptable to the parameters they listed you can try to prove that your answer works too. If you cite proof - post a quote as well as the corroboration that the quote is real - either from a text or a credible online source (in other words if it's QTGrl72's Xena homepage it doesn't count) then the stage is yours.

3. If someone gets an answer correct, they have 12 hours from their last post in this thread to put up a new question. After twelve hours it becomes an open stage and the next question will be whatever one is put up first. Please don't complain if you post a question in an open stage that shows up seconds after the first one, just save your question for another time.

4. Whoever is the questioner for the current riddle must be responsible for keeping track of the guesses. If you know you will not be able to come back online for awhile, make sure to find a question sitter you can PM the answer to. If there is no question sitter and the questioner doesn't come online within twelve hours of their last post to check answers, it becomes an open stage. If a question is up for a long time the questioner can post hints at his or her discretion.

5. While any mythology is acceptable, please avoid questions with religious tones (i.e. What is the name of the one true religion?). I would generally prefer people to avoid religion in general for these questions because I don't want this thread to devolve into flames or religious debate, but since what is religion to some is mythology to others, I won't enforce this.

6. Minimal chatting while waiting for a new question is fine, but try to keep mostly focused on the purpose of this thread. NO FLAMING WHATSOEVER! If you're mad because you got an answer wrong or whatever, take it out of the room.

This thread was insipred by the official Writer's Forum Riddle Room. Go ahead and check it out, it's lots of fun and the rules are pretty much the same, but for riddles instead of mythology questions.

I'll start things off:
What is the term in Hinayana Buddhism that means "one who achieves perfect attainment"?

Have fun!
Is it Boddisthava?
Correct! The stage is yours.
In Norse Mythology, Name the person who killed Baulder. (easy one)
And what was his punishment?
I guess that would be Loki. His punishment was to be bound to a rock with one of his sons' entrails (which became hard as iron) in a cave. Skadi then positioned a snake about Loki so that it's venom would drip onto his face.

I guess that would be Loki, because he urged Hoth to do the actual killing, right? Don't know about the punishment though.

It was in fact Loki! I'll give it to ya^_^ There are actually a few different versions of Loki's punishment.

Your question x_Bluefire_x!
Argh, I just edited my post! The punishment I wrote was one I found on an encyclopedia site, so I don't know.
lol just go with it^_^
Mine's kind of easy, but anyway:
What are the names of the Hindu, Norse, Roman & Greek goddesses of love?
Hindu - Lakshmi
Norse - Freya or Astrild
Roman/greek - Venus/Aphrodite

EDIT- thank god for Google!
Correct! You may procede with your question.

Good ol' Google 3nodding

Raistlin of Krynn
In Japanese mythology, what is the term for "God" that is equivalent to "God" in christian thought?

Ame-no-Minaka-Nushi-no-Mikoto?
Summoner_Aiona

Ame-no-Minaka-Nushi-no-Mikoto?

YES!
(I also would've accepted the much shorter/simpler Kami-sama)
And be simplistic? I think not! (I'm very proud of myself for being able to pronounce that sweatdrop )

Which Celtic Diety was eventually turned into a catholic saint? (Easy!)
