After six years of testing, Aquila Corporation announced
the release of an adventurous highly-interactive virtual world, Shutensa.
The project has created superb reviews across the board. It features an
entire world of customized
characters for the young and old alike to enjoy.

The year is 2220, and the world economy has seen the rise of the Aquila Corporation and their Shutensa MMO to a global phenomena. Nations watch telecasts of tournaments and battles, adventures and the everyday lives of favorite Professional avatars. Merchandising and corporate sponsorship of players and guilds is every bit as common as was once done with sports teams or Olympian athletes. By joining Shutensa, it is assumed that your 'player' is recently become one of these Professionals (Pros) and has graduated from the vanilla, normal internet-MMO to the Aquila Pro-Servers and is now attending one of the Aquila Corp. Academies on one of the sovereign islands. Maybe they just enjoy gaming, maybe they hope the fame and money will pave the way for other career dreams...

Either way, they play Aquilan Shutensa now, and they must start from the ground up with a brand new Pro-Server Avatar.

There are two worlds. The real world, where everyone exists - and Shutensa. There is special equipment used to log into Shutensa. Connection to the realm is done via electrical signals to your brain, and through elaborate bio-geer chair stations where players 'jack in'. A small sticky patch to your arm measures your vital signs, electrical signals, and the like, while other hookups direct to the nervous system determines movement and thought to direct the Avatar.
The 'Avatar' is the pet/character in Shutensa. Avatars basically never speak of their 'players', since once in the Shutensa players cease to exist and you don't remember anything but Shutensa and whatever it is you're doing. This is called unaware. Generally, after being in Shutensa for awhile, your brain adjusts and you become an aware player. You know you are playing a game after that. Avatars personalities during the unaware state may differ drastically from the player's own personality. When a player becomes aware, the two independent personalities of the avatar and the player must find a way to work together and/or influence each other.



[Real World Locations - ]

    Novilus
  • The headquarters and location for the R&D of Aquila Corporation. Novilus is a man-made island, and internationally recognized an soveriegn island state together with the two other man-made island states under the rule of Aquila, Avalon and Mangetsu.
    [ About 200,000 people live and work within 270 sq. mi., an island about the size of Singapore. The population is divided between 4 research facilities and two satellite towns. All locations are connected via an express railways system and a system of well-kept roadways. It has no major lakes or rivers, what waterways there are are subject to tidal flow. The largest waterway is the subject to of a high-tech reservoir and filtration station to provide self-sufficient supplies of water to the island. The island is rugged and rocky with some low peaks; the coasts are mostly cliffs, except for beaches near both satellite towns. The towns are Novae and Altair.
    The unique, non-commercial economy is supported financially by the sale of postage stamps and tourist mementos, fees for admission to the research facility, housing and school tuition, corporate sponsorships, grants, and the sale of publications. Other industries include printing, the production of bio-geers and electronics, and the manufacture of staff uniforms. Most basic food stuffs are grown locally in aeroponics facilities, but specialty goods are imported (snacks, tea, cultural groceries).

    Aquila conducts worldwide financial activities through its own bank. This bank has an ATM with instructions in 30 languages. Visitors and residents who are not nationalized Aquilan citizens are encouraged to arrange with the consulate a temporary bank ID that directly connects to an overseas account. Bank IDs feature automatic conversion from any internationally recognized currency into Aquilan credits. ]

    Mangetsu
  • The asian-focused facility, located 150 miles from the coast of Japan. This will be the primary starting location and role-play setting for most Shutensa community members. [ Mangetsu extends about 120 miles (191 km), and about 1,401 square miles (3,629 km2) of space on which about 1,200,000 people live and work. That is like 1/7th the population of Long Island, NY on about the same land mass. The island has been divided into four wards (ku): Natsu-ku, Fuyu-ku, Haru-Ku, Aki-Ku. The population is not evenly divided, most of the commercial population lives in the residential Haru-ku, most business and work goes on in Natsu-Ku. Fuyu tends towards wild park lands and Aki-Ku is home research and the location of the Mangetsu Aquila facilities. All locations are connected via an express railways system and a system of well-kept roadways. Mangetsu has many man-made, scenic rivers, waterfalls and waterscapes. The general landscape is filled with hills and flat farm fields, along with sprawling suburban webs that are connected by the transportation. There is no 'official' city designated on Mangetsu, but the neighborhoods of the island are identifiable and unique as those within Osaka or Tokyo.

    Highly commercial, branding and merchandising abound everywhere in one form or another. Nearly every major corporation has a store front, as well as hopes to sponsor the next star Avatar. Groceries and commodities tend towards expensive, just like major Japanese cities, so most inhabitants live in small efficiency apartments, pod-apato (apartments), or live with roommates. For players, thankfully, the Mangestu school has dorms.

    The Aqulia bank is available all over the island, but the Yen is also commonly used in daily transactions here. Regular Shinkansen travel to Chiba City in Chiba prefecture and then on to Tokyo. The trip is about one hour to Chiba City, very pleasant over a secure, scenic bridge. This bridge is 120 miles long, some 70 miles longer then any other bridge in the world and is considered one of the modern wonders of the world. It is called the Eagle's Walk ( Washi no Aruku).

    Mangetsu is the home of the Eurus Cup and Tsukuyomi Open tournaments that focus on time-trials, task-based achievements and finding new talent.     Avalon
  • The Americas-focused facility, located 150 miles from the coast of California.
    [ About 1,400 sq. mi. of space divided between two main islands and a handful of smaller, uninhabited or private residences make up this achievement of consumer sovereignty. About 8 million people, similar to the population of New York's Long Island, are considered residents or frequently attending visitors. The economy is based in tourism, gaming, and conventions which in turn feed the retail and dining industries. Entertainment venues, such as touring bands and electronic, mass gaming tournaments and cutting edge innovations are king.
    Avalon is the home of the Zephryus Cup and Orpheus Trials tournaments that determine the strongest individuals and guilds in the Shutensa world.     Ganymede
  • Rumor has it that Aquila Corp. is acquiring the rights and permits to build an Atlantic Ocean based island facility. This facility would focus on the European and African Markets, which heretofore have had to travel the great distances to either Mangetsu or Avalon to participate in Shutensa. [ This facility does not yet exist and no further intel has been confirmed or denied from Aquila Corp. ]

    Soliel is the great Goddess of Shutensa. She's the guiding light of the world. In real terms, she's an AI program. In Shutensa terms, she's a goddess that frequently roams the landscape watching over it's avatars. Luna's Sea, is a trail of stars in the sky that run across the world like a stream. From this stream, the new Shutensa appear. The Path of Ghosts is a high level area that mostly no one dares to wander into. Not much is known about it at this time. Edenia Falls, on the other hand, is a beginner area. There are a lot of cute creatures around these grassy plains. Crescent City is a popular nearby city run by a mafia. It's home to a lot of festivals and a variety of people.

    Dreamland is now ruled by 'Guilds' who carve out territory, create cities, trade, and compete for the resources. The strongest win greater rights to the Luna's Sea where new Shu's are born and fall to the surface, thus reinforcing their strength.

    Culture varies from Territory to Territory, but the general idea of Dreamland is a fantasy mix of renaissance festival and steampunk.

      V. E R I D A N U S / Shutensa v5
    • For the sake of continuity and game changes, the shop setting as it is known is being removed. No prior characters are going to be kept, as their arrangements and stories were made under the direction of the original owners Yuru and Gabriel. This way there is no messing retroactive-plotting, no argument regarding direction, and the art and gameworld can be developed and exist.
      Owners are welcome to use back-stories and names of old characters, but this is a clean slate.

      Stages

    • [Stars/Moons/Clouds - ] This stage starts as Level 0. You must make 2 posts filling out the Avatar Engine Questionnaire. Then 8 posts of your student/teacher/player character in their life. Establish their life, personality, hobbies, get them into the community. Basically, make them as a character...not just a biography/summary.
      At this stage in life, the Shu's star, moon, or cloud is falling down from the Luna's Sea to the surface of Dreamworld. If the Star/Moon/Cloud is collected by guild representatives, the new shu will probably be presented to the guild and start out as a member in one of that guild's territories. This is the most common start for most Shu.
      Occasionally stars/moons slip through at parts of the Sea that are disputed ownership by more then one guild, or in a place where no guild lays claim. These Shu start guildless and on their own. This is a more challenging, more dangerous prospect for young shu. It may also stigmatize them with some guilds later in life as a 'wild birth'.
      ----------Stars - are strong at beneficent/lawful based classes. They gain +1 to all effects as these classes (ie: healing spells heal +1)
      ----------Moons - are strong at malevolent/chaotic based classes. They gain +1 to all effects as these classes (ie: damage spells damage +1)
      ----------Clouds - are strong at neutral based classes. They gain +1 to all effects as these classes (ie: craft / pure melee)

    • [Avatar - Sprite - ] Your avatar's seed from Luna's Sea has hatched and now your character is awake and playable! This is not a 'child' stage, so to speak. The Shu's that are sprite stage are capable of regular thought and emotions, capable of action and consquence just as the 'adult' avatars are. They are simply weaker, less developed, less equiped and SMALLER. A sprite is usually around 3ft tall.
      Beginning at Level 1, you get 1 pt for every complete rp scene. A scene is defined much the same as in a play or novel - it describes the action that takes place in a single setting. In the case of a travel scene, where more then one location does by, the scene is defined by the purpose more then place. A scene has a beginning, middle and end. You should have a goal to accomplish with each scene: Advance story, Show conflict, Introduce character, Develop character, Create suspense, Give information, Create atmosphere, or Develop theme. It doesn't matter if it is jointly written with another player or written solo. You need to gather 10 pts to equal a "luna". Gather 3 lunas to turn in for a Level, or save them to pay for mods to your characters skills, equipment, or appearance. (2 pages/15 posts-per-page each level)


    • [Avatar - Adult - ] Once lvl 10 is earned, your sprite will evolve into an adult. Skills and appearance modifications that have been purchased will be carried over to the new stage art. Your character is now eligible to be an officer in a guild, should the guild have openings/desire to promote a new officer (Captain, Lieutenant, Sergeant). Your shu can have only one follower adult shu, or 2 follower sprites.
      ----------Followers - Dreamworld is a hierarchy of vassals and lords, mentors and students. As a follower, a lower level shu gets the benefit of protection and tutelage from the their lord, hand-me-down loot from adventures, the prestige of being accepted by a higher level shu, and a foot into the door for a guild organization. The 'Lord' gets the benefit of having an extra pair of hands for tasks, the prestige with other shu of having impressed enough to inspire a follower, and can call on/use one ability of their follower each day regardless of class.

    • [Level 20 - ] Your character can become a guild title holder (lord/lady.baron.etc). They can have 1 adult follower for every 10 levels of their own or 1 sprite for every 5. Basic Outfit attained!

    • [Level 50 - ] Your character can become a guild founder. Character can choose a secondary class. 1 item/art upgrade. Available halo quest!
      ----------Guild Founder - The shu in question gets to declare what city/area their guild will headquarter in/contest to headquarter in. The founder is responsible for negotiations and declarations with or against other guilds, bringing suggestions and questions before their Monarch, etc. The founder chooses an emblem, two colour theme, and uniform for their guild. Working with Shutensa staff, Guild Founders are encouraged to run guild-only Rp-events and Rp-item designs/giveaways using Guild Funds of Lunas and/or Gaia Gold.

    • [Level 75 - ] Your character can quest for an epic level item which will be added to their image. The shu can opt to start leveling in a secondary class.

    • [Level 100 - ] Your character has become incredibly skilled and powerful. They earn a signature ability, unique to only them. The Shu is a living legend, optionally a monarch, with the fealty of more then one guild at their command. New outfit / lineart.
      ----------Monarchs - The shu in question gets to designate a small starting land where they have adventured a lot, preferably near to their original guildlands. They may choose a name for their Kingdom, an emblem, example policies. At this stage, such characters are like to moderators, and it would be preferred the owners of such characters become RP managers and begin to organize events with Shutensa Staff.

      STAT SCORES

    • [ Taol - Poell - Ene ]
      [ "Body, Mind, Soul" ] - The base score system of Shutensa is a trinity. Each score goes from 1 to 12 (1 lowest, 12 highest). 4 is considered the 'average' score. From these three scores, the Mana and Heath of the Shu in question is determined. These are considered derivative scores. Since they can be depleted during scenes, or regenerated, derivative scores are not kept on the cert. It is the responsibility of players to keep accurate track during combat of their mana and health. The attack and defense scores, also derivative scores.

    [ How to Get a SHUTENSA ]

      STEP 1

    • READ THE WHOLE FRONT PAGE!! Many of your questions are answered here about how the world works/plot
    • Fill out the form for your ‘real world’ player bio. You will post this in the Player Application Forum in the GUILD. It covers many of the basic ideas and plot-muse elements that will help you and others during role-playing.
      Please do not change the format of this. If you have additional subtopics you want to write about, add them into a second post, separate from this basic bio. Make a student, teacher, or otherwise player of the Shutensa MMO to join in the 'real' world roleplay and community. Once you have written and submitted the form to this thread, you cannot begin playing until your character is approved by the thread moderators. However, once your real world human is approved, you may begin playing. You do not need an Avatar/SHU to play in the 'real world' setting, you just can't participate in the "Dreamworld" setting itself.

      A note about potential characters: your character should already be a player of the game and have a account as a civilian on the civilian/public servers. Few are the genius' who would be capable or care to just go to Aquila having never played and to join in as a professional player.

    • Once your Real World Character is approved, join in the community and roleplay!
    • Watch the availability and updates for shop events and sales where your player can purchase/win a Shutensa Avatar


      STEP 2

    • Once you have won a Shu, you will be responsible for writing 8 posts establishing your real world player on the island. These eight posts will allow you to start developing those features you dictated on the BIO form and get familiar with your player. At least one of your in-character post of your player choosing a name for their Avatar. Roll a d6. 1-3 is a Star, 4-5 is a Moon, 6 is a Cloud.
    • AGAIN, Make sure you write, or have already written and submit to a moderator, your 8 posts of your student/teacher/player character in their real life as outlined in the description of STAR/MOON/CLOUD.
    • You will be given a cert with a Star/Moon/Cloud stage graphic to represent the birth of your Shu. Talk to the moderators and guild leaders about where from the Luna's Sea your Shu is descending, and whether it will be in a guild territory or remain GDI.
    • Write at LEAST one entry in your journal depicting your players answers and optionally answering of the Avatar Forge questionnaire. This should be part of your 8 posts.

      STEP 3

    • Once the System determines how the answers will affect the Avatar's destiny and appearance, the sprite of your avatar will be born from their star/moon/cloud.
    • Every new BASIC Shu begins play with 12 points to divide between their three scores:Taol, Poell, Ene. Before the final cert can be presented, choose how you want to divide your points among these scores.
    • Familiarize yourself with the extra information manual, if you haven't already. You can find it in the guild here: User Image
    • You can now start writing your avatar's adventures in the Dreamworld solo and in group rps! The more you write, the better you write, the more levels you will gain. As a community member, the more levels and better your writing, and the more you interact with others, the more clout and better your chances of eventually becoming a guild officer or even founder. As you write, you will earn points to spend on Lunas. Lunas are the level-purchasing, ability-purchasing, equipment purchasing currency of the the Shutensa Game. So as you go you can improve your character's base stats, buy enhancements to their mana or health, buy new spells, attacks, defenses, or buy new accessories and equipment. You will be able to trade Luna's through a moderator to other Shu or to Guild Funds. You can buy Guild specific items with them. You get the idea. For specific stores /charts / costs information, look to the Shutensa Thread's Guild.

Professions are up to the player (tailor, baker, candlestick maker), but Paths provide an insight to the abilities an avatar is able to use. Paths are chosen at character creation. For example, the Path of Light could be chosen, meaning that your Shu has healing abilities.

[Rules to Abide By]


    Rule 0
  • Third Person, subjective past tense or Third Person, omnicient past tense are the narration methods of choice.

    Rule I
  • Keep OOC and IC separate.

    Rule II
  • Do not beg, or otherwise whine in the thread. That's pretty self explanitory.

    Rule III
  • Do not steal the art or thread graphics! That will automatically expel you and is an absolute no-no.

    Rule IV
  • Role play It doesn't matter where, just show you appreciate the work that goes into these. You don't have to role play all the time in the main thread, but occasionally appearing is nice. Roleplay is required to evolve these pets. If you vanish without notification for lengthy amount of time, your character will be retired and possibly rehomed. Should you ever reappear, you may be offered a refund pending the situation. If you roleplay in PM, Thread, or AIM, please copy them over to your journal/forum in the guild. This will also decide your levels.

    There are a few exceptions to the roleplay rule:
    (1) If you inform us you will be going on hiatus, then we will not take away your avatar (but you must specify the length of time you will be gone and the reason ).
    (2) You have some sort of problem within the shop. You can bring it to us and if you feel like you need a break, we're more than understanding.
    (3) If you own a child from one of the sets or they are specially labeled (rp non-required). The Sins/Virtues set, for instance, is NOT roleplay required.

  • Send all PMs and trades to Shutensa

  • You cannot sell your Shutensa. If you don't want it anymore, it becomes the property of the shop to be dealt with as we see fit. You can also not kill it off so that no one else could have it. Negotiations can be made to retired it, though. People do get tired of Gaia.

    Rule VII
  • The guild is godly for keeping information. We highly advise everyone to donate 2500 to the guild and get a forum of your own. It is perfect for journals, role play, and notes. Sometimes we will give forums away to encourage new roleplayers to join.

    Rule VIII
  • Leave if you have a problem the way this shop is run. We really do not want shop drama here, and we're trying our best to make this a fun enviorment.

    Rule IX
  • One Student / Teacher cannot have two avatars. Students and Teachers can only have one avatar. You can make multiple students, however you are limited to owning 2 characters who have avatars..the rest of your characters would be non-avatared characters(Fans, reporters, cafeteria ladies, etc). Co-Owning is also not allowed.

    Rule X
  • Upon failure of payment, be it gold, items, or a pet trade -- the avatar becomes invalid. We will take it away, and do with it as we see fit, which could include giving it to another person as we don't want to see hard work put to waste. We will never take away an avatar we gift unless you break rules provided that you roleplay it at least once *unless* it is stated to be non-rp required.

  • Godmodding is a big no no! If the character is not yours, don't control it unless you have permission from the real owner of the character! This includes putting them into a situation they did not agree upon in the first place. Also, please consult all those you are roleplaying with -before- editing posts and previous roleplay logs. Do not change things /after the fact/. It's very confusing later on.

  • TERMS OF SERVICE!! Abide by Gaia TOS! Repeated offenses to this will result in your characters being expelled! The administration here does not want their thread and guild deleted so we ask everyone to play nice. <3

  • Multiples! Several avatars can have similar qualities. For example if I were to describe a gold avatar with red hair and an egyptian theme, it does not mean there won't be another gold avatar with red hair and an egyptian theme! They won't be exactly the same though.

  • Talk to shop owners first! They will try to solve problems first, and we would prefer that things were sent to PM before anything. We don't always read every page of the thread. If you have a concern, bring it to us. Those that do take concerns immediately into thread, owners or non-owners, will be asked to take it to PMs.

    Q: Can I make a character?
  • A: Yes, you can make a civilian/student/aspiring hopeful. You don't need permission to make them, but you do need to have your character application/bio approved in the forum. To have a shop avatar -- you will have to wait for sale.

    Q: When I get an avatar, can I make up its path?
  • A: No, but you can chose from the normal path list available to you through the guild yo uare part of or according to the GDI listing. You -can- make up its profession, though. Just like you can with any character, the type of job they do is totally up to you.

    Q: How many stages do Shutensa have?
  • A: Read the front page.

    Q: Do I get to customize my own avatar?
  • A: If you buy a custom. Otherwise, customization is limited to what is made available according to the guild system, rp rewards, or special case item prizes/earnings.

    Q: Why do they have a star/constellation?
  • A: That star in the star your avatar is born from in Shutensa. It's a nice touch to know what he or she represents.

    Q: How can I get an avatar?
  • A: Flaffles, Flatsales, Events, Auctions, Trades, all the usual ways.

    Q: What do the dorms look like?
  • A: Look at the Mangetsu Subforum in the Guild

    Q: How do I get a forum in the guild?
  • A: Donate 2500 gold to the guild, and then PM Shutensa to get your forum.

    Q: My character is missing?! What happened?
  • A: Gabriel and Yuru have turned over ownership of Shutensa, and the new owner decided that the 2.5 year stagnantion/abandonment of the shop meant that a clean slate was the best policy. All characters were moved into a moderator archive and cleared from the owner's list . Your stuff has not been deleted. Get in contact with Shutensa if you would like copies of your guild information/rps. Your Shu is not rehomed or given away.

    Q: Do you do pet or art trades?
  • A: Maybe?

    What kind of animals reside in Dreamland and is it possible for our Shutensas to adopt/befriend them?


  • A:In Shutensa -Formerly Dreamland- There are many animals. What you can tame depends on your class and your level. Some classes can tame, others summon, others have no pet abilities. The Command Attribute could allow those without class-specific abilities to have 'pets', though not as nice of ones.

Bringing new meaning to the term 'mini'shop!

    What is this? tiny!Shu is the minishop for Shutensa.

    What are the differences? tiny!Shu features two stages. They do not wear clothes, they are only all-natural. They feature 'themes'.

    tiny!Shu are not roleplay required. They have their own marked certs. You can choose to roleplay them if you desire, as you'll be able to pick a path for your tiny!Shu just like a normal avatar. tiny!Shu will not grow up to the adult avatars that you normally see around the shop unless you get a slot.

    What are the stages? Cloudy Moon/Star, Child -- Since there are no roleplay requirements, the stage changes will come at random, and be below the priority of adult avatars who are more frequently roleplayed. However, if you choose to roleplay your tiny!Shu, you will find it growing faster!

    What ways do you get one? tiny!Shu are more like event avatars. They will be periodically given away during contests, events, page markers, and the like. Except for customs, they will never be sold at auction.

    Are there any special rules? Only the same rules as Shutensa, except for the roleplay requirements. We ask that everyone be nice and friendly.

    Are there any other types of tiny!Shu? There are various sets for tiny!Shu. These sets can start at any stage, including the child stage. The Seven Sins / Seven Virtues sets are an example of these.
