Welcome to Gaia! ::

Welcome to Midgard...

Midgard, the Sinbound roleplay thread. Midgard is a world in itself in the forums of Gaia - though time passes here as it does in the outside world, weather and precipitation takes on a life of its own. Midgard is what we would call on Earth a vast forest, populated by decidious and evergreen trees alike. From the tallest oak to the most humble ground creeper, Midgard is a flourishing world, an ancient forest of great proportions. Cutting through the forest floor are numerous small brooks. The northern boundaries of the forest creep up the slope of a gradually rising mountain chain, the vegetation thinning as one climbs closer to the tree line.

Please make sure to check this post for weather conditions in Midgard...time/seasons go by, um....Meep-time. Whatever that is. Slower than normal time, due to the halting nature of the RP in here.

Current conditions:
Snow's still falling...and my, do those flakes look big!
Month of January.

About Ferrus

Ferrus behave much like the wild wolf. Some have a tendency to form packs, where a ranking system like the wolf's would apply (alphas, betas, etc.). Ferrus may talk to one another through oral speech, as well as the usual canine forms of communication like growling, howling, et cetera. However, Ferrus cannot speak to their human owners. Some Ferrus and their owners have such a close connection in which words do not need to be used for them to understand one another. ^^
Physically, the average Ferrus stands several inches taller than the grey wolf. The average Ferrus is also larger than its lupine cousin. The ruff of fur around its head and neck adds an illusion of size. However, there are always exceptions to the rule, and Ferrus can come in various shapes and sizes.

Rules
IMPORTANT. READ THESE.
Quote:
1. NO netspeak. Talking with strange letters/numbers/symbols in place of actual words is not cool.
2. Please have a few sentences of QUALITY roleplay, at least. I want people with a good handle on the English language here. Reading through roleplaying posts should not be painful for the viewer. You may not be the world's best roleplayer, but please try your best when posting here - be as clear and descriptive as possible.
3. It would be VERY helpful if people posted in different fonts - there can be as much as a dozen or more people roleplaying at once, and just going by avatars or usernames can be extremely confusing.
4. Be sensible and reasonable in your use of foul language IC...some is fine, but don't overdo it (none of the more colorful words OOC, please...the occasional 'damn' is acceptable, but I don't want anyway getting offended or being made uncomfortable). I do not have a problem with extreme gore/blood, but if some people here do, I will put a limit onto the graphicness of posts.
5. Do something to denote 'out of character' posts. This is to limit confusion. Remember - this is a ROLEPLAYING thread, not a chatting one. Go to the main thread for that, please.
6. Please, please use third person? Reading first person is a little..jarring. Besides, you're RPing your Ferrus, too, not just yourself.
7. IC fights are, of course, completely acceptable, and bound to happen. Do not drag OOC fights into IC, or vice versa (only in jest). There will be no god-modding.
8. Be respectful to others.

Getting Started/General Tips
Quote:
1. Something I advise very strongly is going back and looking at the early posts in the original roleplaying thread (linked below for your convenience) to get an idea of how others have 'introduced' themselves and their Ferrus.
2. You are not just playing your Ferrus here, but yourself, its human, as well. The two of you can meet up however you like, and whether you take this as something that happened before your introduction or roleplay it out in here is your choice. Your Ferrus can also wander around a bit before they encounter their human, that's just as fine.
3. CHECK THE WEATHER. Thank you.
4. Do NOT make use of information you haven't received IC. As a minor example, if you haven't learned someone's name IC, then don't use it. If you haven't learned IC that Loki can hypnotize her prey, that Thai can literally move without making a sound, or other such things, don't use it.
5. Before you jump in, get a feel for where everyone is, and try not to plant yourself right in the midst of something. Start outside of it (say, catch the scent from a distance) and work your way in. If it appears to be a delicate sort of situation, you might like to ask OOCly if the players would mind you jumping in. But trust me, no one goes alone for long in here--you will be found by someone, just have patience.
6. This is a big, big place...feel free to create your own locations. No villages full of people though (if you want an abandoned, decaying one, be my guest), this place is also isolated: characters can travel outside if they need something, but generally this isn't specifically roleplayed out, as it occurs outside of Midgard...by all means, though, refer to such travels as often as you like. It's also worth noting that it would be a long, hard journey, and therefore one likely not often made.

...to be added on to later.

((Mmkay, safe to post now. The old thread is here, if you want to look back.))
(Yay. New thread. I'll just pick up where we left off. 3nodding )

"I..I guess so." Hodr's tails twitched uneasily at the thought of encountering another Ferrus, but he kept his anxiety to himself. Thai would do what Thai would do, regardless of his opinion, and besides, he knew he couldn't let his fear get the better of him. So he stood, and nodded to indicate that he was ready to go.

Though she'd picked up on the pup's nervousness, she paid it little heed, excited as she was by the prospect of encountering other Ferrus. Aside from Hodr, the last she'd seen had been the one called Fenris, who'd seemed promising, so far as the potential for amusing herself went, but sadly, things hadn't gotten very far at all. So now, Thai was fairly itching for something to happen. With one more look back at the pup, she set off again, this time with a goal in mind, which caused her to set a faster pace.

Even then, it wasn't too fast for Hodr, though it did cause him more trouble..he tripped over a few more things, and a few times nearly fell, barely managing to catch himself. But still, the blind pup's stumbling meant that his chains made a good deal more noise than Thai might have liked.

Kronos sniffed around some more trying to get some idea of where the other Ferrus were comming from. There were definetly tw of them. He picked his ears up as he heard the noise of chains clanking around. Figuring that the noise must be from the ones he had smelled he took off in that direction.

Alera sighed and followed him trying to keep up.
Thai glanced back at the pup, rolling her eyes at the racket he was making, but said nothing of it. Though she kept it to herself, she hoped that if he was going to grow, he'd do it quickly, and then she wouldn't have to worry about all the noise he made with those chains. Since surprise was out of the question (a pity, because she so dearly loved surprises), she decided that she may as well make things a little more dignified. The other Ferrus was coming closer, no doubt because it had noticed them by now, and so it made all the sense in the world to let it come to them. Once more bringing herself to a stop, she consciously struck a pose, head and tails high. With her leathery wings half-spread, turning her into a rather imposing figure, she tipped her muzzle back and howled. Let the other come to her...

Again, Hodr narrowly avoided a collision with the older Ferrus..one of these times, he was bound to run into her, but fortunately he managed well enough this time. Standing to the left and behind her, he howled as well; where her voice was dark and deep, his was severe and unmelodious, but somehow that only served to make it captivating in its own right.

Sabin Duvert
((weelll.... as i've heard hide nor hair from Keimo... I'm going to assume that her Ferrus withdrew for the moment, after leading the cub to the deer carcass ))

*Sabin returned back to the campsite, Brindle sticking close by his side -and partially alleviating some of Sabin's concerns that Brindle would leave upon seeing the lone female.

Brindle was feeling markedly better since yesterday morning - not only had someone come to "rescue' him from his abandoned den, but he had had hearty meals, successfuly hunted a rabbit (with some help) and had seen another of his kind that did not abandon or snarl at him right off... but was she to be trusted? *he curled up to sleep next to Sabin, dreaming of hunting rabbits, and moving silently and powerfully through the forest*

*Sabin had been nurturing Brindle for the past few weeks now - training him to attempt to move quietly despite the heavy steel chains weighing him down, at first assisting him with the help of a silence spell, and gradually helping him learn to guard his footsteps, how to move without the chains clanking noisily behind him so he wouldn't scare away potential game.

It has been slow progress. Brindle seemed more adept at instead crouching quietly in tall grasses near a waterhole, after having rolled in the dark mud to cover his more vibrant orange patterns and masking his scent and waiting for game to come near him.

He still had only seen that one other female once, though his confidence was building. Occasionally, from time to time, he would think back on his mother... or his sibling mournfully, a howl rising to his chest.
Jasmine slunk cautiously along. This was all new, new scents, new place. Her colouring made her stand out against the background of grass and earth and so she kept to the shadows, tail low and almost tucked between her back legs. The chain's clinked softly and she stopped, ears twitching as she listened for the sounds of others.
<Eryk looked about the new midgard with wonder and dismay...it looked more crisp and vibrant then where he had previously hunted...He wasn't sure where he had been for the last few weeks...it was all a cloudy haze..>

*twigs rustle and snap as something softly approaches*

<Eryk sniffed the air and snorted loudly...only his human trying to follow him>

*Darkingnight stalked up as quietly as she could hoping to catch Eryk heading out of the forest...being briefy in that shop reminded her of how much she missed her home..*
Jasmine scented the air, cautiously. The human who she had recently found herself with was a good distance away. Thankfully, she huffed. Clumsy things cant stalk worth a damn, and she carried on, paws placed just so, avoiding leaves and twigs in the undergrowth. There was another like her somewhere..but where?

A growl rumbled through Skart's chest as he padded along the forest, his red gaze fixed upon a point in the distance only he seemed to see, his heavy paws, now free from the long chains that had tormented him as a teen, moving almost silently amongst the folliage. Soundless beast, no clear thoughts within his mind, just the need to move on, to go elsewhere, to not stay in the same place.

Such visions I saw that night. Wonders and terrors...

A bird lifting flight made the dark ferrus snap his gaze to his right, eyes narrowing as his teeth bared briefly, however, he seemed to deem it not a threat, and simply continued moving on, the breeze brushing against his rather wild and seemingly long fur; tell truth, there were few that ventured close enough to the Sionbound to actually either groom him or do anything of the sort. One of them being his owner, DFA, whom had to be the only human he allowed to ever place a hand over him... and that was only when HE went to visit her.

I saw the ages of the world, saw how the life in those ages flowered and withered, brief as breath, an insect thing.

He was a free spirit, wild, uncaring for the world or those about him; were it for him, the world could waste about him, and he'd not care. It didn't really bother him what others may have thought, nor did he really spend time enough pondering how things could be diferent if he ever would. He lived the moment, and till now, he had always thought the same.

And there, apart from it all, drawing life from the devastion, one creature unchanging; Myself.

Did it matter anyhow? He seemed to growl in response to his own question, a keen gleam within the deepths of his eyes as he turned, brushing himself against a tree while doing so, and in so, leaving his mark there; he would stay here for now.

And I stood among the ruins of creation, and the earth was waste about me, and my soul cried out, and there was nothing to hear...

While reciting the last sorrowfull line of the poem within his mind, the dark Ferrus lifted his head up, his eyes closing as his ears flattened against his head, a howl escaping his parted jaws; the sound of it stretching across the forest with only one intention...

I'm here, can't you hear me? I'm here...
The howl seared through her, echoing within and without. Her ears flattened, back against her skull and she halted her path, trying to work out where that had come from. Teeth and claws she had, but she was no match against a fully grown of her kind and she slunk further into the shadows of the trees, slipping from one tree base to another.

His song of death endded, and the ferrus opened his eyes partially, while still positioned in a howl pose; jaws parted slightly, ears still flattened. He allowed the remaining echo to pass through him, to move him, and after what seemed to him like an eternity... he moved finally.

Slowly, Skart dropped his head, ears straining to hear any answering call, any kind of signal to let him know one of her his kind was about, but he waited in vain, no answer was to come... as of yet. He allowed himself to snort, his two tail swishing as he continued his prowling, deeper and deeper into the forest.

And maybe it was his senses fooling him.... but was that the scent of a pup he had caught a few seconds ago?
Careful, sang the warnings in her head. The scent of the adult, and male was stronger. Somehow she had managed to blunder closer rather then further away. The mistakes of youth, she would learn better to read trails but for now her small paws were carrying her towards the Ferrus..
Deep within his tormented sleep, Skoll heard the cry across the land. His ears twitched and he wrinkled his muzzle trying to pull himself out of the depth of sleep that has held him prisoner. Images of blood and torn flesh nipped at his regaining sense of "self."

His chest rising and falling with the deepening breath disturbs the human who has been looking out for him during his slumber. DG groggily rubs her eyes with the back of her hand, noticing how dirty she has gotten from living in a cave. Realizing the changing in his breathing pattern, DG leans over Skoll and stoke back the fur that surrounds his face. Using her fingers to brush out the dead fur she starts humming for him.

"No! You will not hold me any longer!" Skoll announces to the stumbling figures that chase him though his dreamscape. His head held high and tail strait up he gives a warning growl. "I. Must. Go!" He charges at the heavy shadows using his powerful jaws to tear them apart. His claws slash at reaming bits. The dark, bloody ground absorbs the tattered black shapes and gives off a rotting stench. Skoll backs away far enough from the bad place, not trusting to leave his back open.

As he starts walking away he feels his fur is being tugged on. Looking around for the source he hears something very distant. It's a memory of a powerful cry that echoes through his ears, quickly followed by something more peaceful and welcoming. A light pierces the dusky haze that he has grown accustomed to. A blurry shape looms above him. A familiar sent. His pink tongue licks his nose as he quickly makes the connection to his human.

"Skoll!" DG exclaimed. "I was so worried! I didn't know how long you were going to sleep!" She wraps her arms around the shaggy neck of her blue companion. Silent sobs rake through her body. Lifting his head slowly Skoll nuzzles her neck trying to calm her down. He never liked it when she cried. DG feeling something warm on her face opens her eyes to find Skoll licking off her tears. Giving a shaky laugh she helps him wipe away the last of her tears.

"Well, lets get some fresh air. It's can't be too good to be stuck in a cave too much." DG talked as she helped Skoll get to his feet. Feeling how much weight he has lost made her nervous, but was confident that he would make a strong comeback. With her help, Skoll took his first few steps into daylight and felt a slight burden lift off of his shoulders. He was still curious if he only dreamed of another howl or not, but he wanted to find out.
