Welcome to Gaia! ::

I don't know PHP, but people that knows tell me it's really simply and easy to correct that old foreign english characters bug, so what are you waiting for???

It is really disgusting to check how few you matters foreign languages people.

EDIT: This is a glitch that affect not only spanish spoken, but many not english spoken, so support us!

And, playing with Gaia rules, let's do what Edhel says:

Do you mean how some accented characters will show up as garbage instead of their intended display character?

Part of the problem seems to be that different servers have different versions of things on them - if I post ΓΌ (u with umlat over) right now, it shows up fine. But you might get a server with a different character set and see something different - or the ever-fun question mark o'doom instead.

Other things that are not identical on all servers: the strike function for text formatting. The manner in which quotes behave - users with square brackets in their name end up with their name cut off when they are quoted on some servers, but works fine on others.

Yes, is annoying. But they will get to it - there are a lot of other bugs that need to be resolved as well.

Do you type the characters by shortcut keys, or entering the codes? You could maybe write out the codes in a code snippet, although its more tedious and not nice to try to proof-read before posting sweatdrop
Yes, I mean that.

Months ago, close to April, the bug was solved. But just for a pair of months...

At least 3 months are passed by and Gaian Admin don't mind to correct this!

Yes, and as long as they keep adding new features WITHOUT correcting previous bugs Gaia will be less and less stable. That is not just a belief but a fact as a software developer and programmer.

The foreign languages bug can easily be solved by cleaning up the text before it's saved on the databse (like for instance using htmlspecialchars() ) and/or installing proper language support in the different servers.

I like Gaiaonline and hanging around in here, but there are way too much bugs lately and too much focus on adding new features instead of correcting what would otherwise be minor bugs.
Well, as one of THE ENORMOUS NUMBER of Gaians that speaks in Spanish, I'm tired about this bug. Not because writing those characters is only an ornament, its because WE NEED THEM for understand what we are saying. If you don't realize that, it maybe says that you are not interested in us.

I don't know PHP neither, and don't know how much difficult is to fix it or the troubles you have with other bugs, but I hope you to fix it asap, because its not only annoying, but we need those characters.
Just switch the encoding to Unicode manually if it shows up as gibberish. I post in Japanese a lot, it's not that hard to switch it.

I concur. No one with any brains in his head is going to complain about a lack of updates if improvement is being made on the flaws already festering in the system. I would rather wait five years for the battle system then see glitches like these nagging away at the usability of this site.
I couldn't agree more. As [_Ooops_] has posted before, this bug was efectively solved some months ago, and so it worked perfectly... ti'l the time the new hardware was added for the users capacity issue.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think there are some new servers that were not configured with de proper feature to allow the spanish characters to show. I know the programmers work hard to barely manage the increasing stream of data from the largest community over internet, but we ask just to take a few minutes to check this little detail.

all admins have different tasks they specialize in I believe...
So why would the one working on the battle system stop, if the debugging is going slow...

with a movie, would the actors stop making new shots if the CGI effects are going slow? no reason to...

Simple. Because a bug in your system can later bring fatal errors. Look at what happened with the Gaia fishing minigame (disappearing gold for example), or the stores (you could sell and sometimes you wouldn't get any money back).

Bad analogy. In a programmed system EVERY part of it is integral to its well functioning, precisely because it's a system.

Is the CGI effects are going slow it doesn't affect people acting. However in a computer system if one program is buggy it can make the entire system unstable.

The real problem with this bug is that in spanish there are words that are written the same except for the stress mark to differentiate them. Second, the bug causes some words to appear incomplete and makes post extremely difficult to understand.

As I've said before, I don't think this is a hard to resolve issue since it has been already fixed.

Yeah, same here. I know admins are busy and all that, but if only they knew... I can't write properly in Spanish, I have to figure out what other ppl write because of the bugs etc...

It's really annoying crying
I can't write anything, damnit gonk

I guess we're not important at all neutral
