Who are you going to vote for in the 2008 presidential, assuming you're from USA?
Why?

I'm going to vote for Mike Gravel. http://www.2decide.com/table.htm
In favor of:
He's in favor of abortion. He likes stem cell research. he wants to honor the Kyoto protocol (al gore fans should note that that's pretty much the only good thing about al gore). He likes net neutrality. He wants us out of Iraq post-haste, but unlike some other candidates, he doesn't want us going into Iran. He's cool with gay marriage, but also a same-sex-civil union.
Against:
he wants to get rid of the No Child Left Behind act, and anyone who's had to feel the effects of it know just how useless it is. He wants to get rid of the patriot act (let me point out that Clinton and Obama both like it, those bastards). He doesn't want some worthless border fence. He doesn't like the torture going on in guantanamo bay.

Huh, thanks for that nice little chart.
Unfortunately, I will miss next years election by like two weeks....my 18th birthday is on the fifteenth of November....But I can still root for my favorite!

Honestly, I have no clue as to who I'm voting for (and I will be voting in this next election). Like I mentioned in another post, I stopped following politics a few years ago. However, I do believe I need to study this if I intend to vote (even that I'm not sure of, I've heard some great cases against not voting) and if I do, I will be making an informed decision.

That being said, where can I get the facts of the candidates, without any pulled heartstrings and mudslinging?

That chart, it would seem, is the only unbiased source of information.
It also links to their websites, so that if there's an issue you're decided on but not listed, you can see if it's listed.

If you're undecided on an issue, I think there's nowhere you can go without a bit of slander.

Wow, you completely changed my mind with that chart. You're right, Gravel for the win. However, I don't think he has a chance in hell.

I sense sarcasm, but interpreting your statement gullibly, I agree.
However, I plan to vote for him anyway. Even if I'm alone, I'm going to pretend not every single election is just between a douche and a turd sandwich.

I dont like any of the Democrats. Obama wants to invade our allies and have peaceful talks with our enemies. Edwards wants to mandate (force) Americans to see the doctor once a year. Hillary's for socialized health care.

I dont know if I like any of the Republicans yet. I haven't been watching any debates because they all seem like windbags to me right now.

Yeah, reading it again, it does sound sarcastic. It wasn't meant to.

Invade our allies? Like who?

What's wrong with seeing a doctor? Preventative health care can only be a good thing.

What's wrong with socialized health care? Personally, I think it's immoral to deny anyone treatment. Health is not a luxury for the rich. It is for everyone.

You didn't hear it? Obama said he's willing to invade Pakistan, one of the few allies we have in the Middle East. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/01/AR2007080101233.html

There's nothing wrong with seeing a doctor, but the fact that he wants to make it a law, the fact that he's forcing it is completely absurd. It seems sort of like something a Commie woudl do. What about people who dont want to see a doctor? What about the people who dont have the money to go see a doctor?

Socialized health care is a big problem, for many reasons. One, I dont think it's fair that the government will be taking our tax dollars and giving them to Homeless Joe off the street just because he's homeless, or Worrywart Wendy taking her kid in to see the doctor because her child has the sniffles. My money shouldn't go to that. Plus, if everybody gets to see the doctor, do you realize how long the lines to see the doctor would be? I've heard Canadians call the Sean Hannity show before and tell him how they've waited ridiculously long times like three months for an MRI for a life-saving test. Not to mention that the incentive to be a good doctor would be completely taken away if you're going to have the government decide who you do and dont see, how much you're getting paid, etc.

Alright, if none of that has changed your mind, let's put it this way: Do you really trust the government with your health?

It seems to make more sense to invade a country that does have terrorists than to invade one that doesn't. *cough* *Iraq* *cough* I wouldn't be happy to invade anyone else though. I miss peacetime.

Calling people a 'Commie' is not really an insult, but used as such is just ad hominem. I think healthcare should be free, so money wouldn't be an issue in my perfect world. We mandate that people get vaccinations to protect against disease, why not mandate people to get check-ups? An ounce of preventative is worth a pound of cure.

If you really think your money is worth more than a person's health, you're somewhere between stingy mizer and morally bankrupt. People die because they can't afford to live. That is not right. I am aware that socialized health care has a lot of problems, but allowing people to become so sick and die isn't a good system either.

Iraq? No terrorists? Who the ******** is shooting at us? You think all those men with guns coming from neighboring countries are just sighseers? Just coming to Iraq because they're on a pilgrimage? No, they're terrorists. They're the ones who're shooting at us.

I know. Commie is just easier to write than Communist. Nice and short, ya know?

And unfortunately, Koravin, your world isn't perfect. Socialized health care would be perfect if the world were filled with enough doctors to actually take care of the long lines that free health care would create. I dont think I made it clear in the last post, so I'll try again. Read carefully: If everybody has free health care, then everybody can go see the doctor. All at once. I already told you about how Canadians are waiting three months for MRIs for life saving tests. In fact, I read an article in the Orlando Sentinel a while ago about how a woman from some random city on the Canadian border had to actually cross the border to have her sextuplets. Why? Because Canada has socialized health care and there wasn't enough room in any nearby hospitals for her to have her babies. The world isn't perfect, and I'm sure you realize that if going to the doctor is free, then everybody will go to the doctor, which means that if you actually need to see the doctor, then chances are, you'll die by the time the appointment comes around.

There's nothing wrong with preventative health care. What's wrong about what Edwards wants, however, is definitely wrong. You shouldn't be forced to go to the doctor. That means that the government will have one more string to manipulate you with. I'm just a little curious, what do you think will be the consequences will be if you dont go to see the doctor? A fine? How heavy? Going to jail? How long? The point is, it's ridiculous that he wants to force you to be healthy. It's like saying "Go visit your doctor. Dont need to? Well, skip your appointment and see if you still don't need to see the doctor."

Maybe we could not completely socialize health care, but instead, just raise taxes a tiny bit to cover a tiny bit of the cost.
And then Worrywort Wendy doesn't reap this benefit, we could have a "gratuitous visit" clause where if you shouldn't have come, you get nothing.

Maybe. But I'm still not thrilled with anything with the world "socialized" in it. Especially if a democrat like Edwards or Hillary(HillaryCare) proposes it.

Iraq did not attack us on 9/11. And just because they're fighting us, doesn't mean they're terrorists. They are fighting against us because they see us as oppressors and such. Fighting with the US doesn't make you a terrorist.

I'm not stupid. I know there are problems with socialized health care. I'm speaking from a purely moral perspective. I think it's immoral to deny people access to health care. That's all. Being poor or homeless doesn't make you any less a person, or reduce your right to live.

Yeah, I guess it is silly to have a law for it, but it should definitely be encouraged.
