With things around like 'WWJD?' and whatnot, I had always thought that trying to be as much like Christ would be a good thing.

However, after reading This post, I'm wondering how many people actually share the Belief. For those that do, have you scriptural evidence to back it up?

Umm... what the hell...?
I have no scriptural evidence... wait... I don't need it. Okay. Is all good.
I definitely do not hold this belief. I'm still trying to wrap my head around his comment... it made so little sense, it made my brain itch... o.0

the T in TULIP stands for Total Depravity.
which means that even though we're redeemed by Christ, we still are in a fallen state of humanity and will always be prone to sin as long as we're in this body. Arminianists assert however that perfection is achievable in this lifetime, which is known as sanctification. Calvinists say that it can't happen in our life on earth since we're in our fallen bodies, whereas Arminianists argue that it is because many times Paul exhorts us to do many things that would be beyond us if we are totally depraved.

however, it seems that the person who posted has a misunderstanding of the term "Christ-like". from what i gathered, the poster takes it to mean that one IS Christ-like, i.e. perfect, and not the way non-Christians use it ("Christ-like" meaning to be tolerant, accepting, loving, etc.).

though i don't see why they'd want us to be completely Christ-like, since we'd probably piss them off so much they'd kill us. >__>

I think he's trying to underscore his sinful nature...at least, that's how I read it.

Striving to be like Christ is still, in my mind at least, a good thing. Scriptural evidence shall have to wait until I am not exhausted--I'll look it up tonight.

Heh. This reminds me of a movie I watched at a bible study at a family camp I went to during the summer.
It talked about what it means to be a Christian. I don't remember much of it, or even what it's called, but I remember that the term "Christian" came shortly after Jesus' death (by shortly, I mean within the first 100 years. I think it was during the time John was writing Revelation, but I'm not sure), and that it literally means "little Christ".

*remembers more as thinks about the movie*

Okay, so you know how Jesus would pretty much come up to random people and tell them to follow him, and they'd drop whatever they were doing and follow? There's a heck of a lot more to that.
You see, children went to religion classes. At the end of those classes, they'd be tested on what they'd learned, and the very best would continue their classes, while the rest went to find work. When the best where done with that phase of their classes, they'd be tested, and the best of the best would continue, while the rest would go find work, like the ones before. This cycle would go around once more, and then the best of the best of the best would either choose to work or go ask a rabi to allow them to become his deciple, to become like the rabi. The rabi would ask a ton of questions that they'd have to answer, and then the rabi would decide to either allow them to become his deciple, or send them packing. Deciples would follow the rabi around for years, listening to what he preached. Eventually they'd learn all they could from the rabi, and begin their own life as a rabi, usually around their late twenties or thirties (not entirely sure on the age, but they're pretty old by the time they start. xp ).
Now, Jesus' deciples had gone through this process, and hadn't been good enough. For Jesus to give them the opportunity to become like him was incredible for them. Jesus was saying that they were the best of the best of the best. Of coarse they'd drop what they were doing.

Anyhoo, yeah, I think being like Christ is a really good thing.

P.S.
I'm not saying that we can be perfect, but I think that we should do our best to get as close as we can. Afterall, Jesus died for us. The least we can do is try to live like him. 3nodding

P.P.S.
I know that that didn't really have any scriptual references and stuff.
Just putting something that just about everyone knows is in the Bible in cultural context. ninja

okay, I still can't find my bible (reorganizing my bookcase has made it impossible to find anything, even my copy of Lirael, which I REALLY want as I just finished Sabriel last night), but I'm going to jump off from what Redeption said.

You're talking about a NOOMBA Video. They rock.

I think the most relavent point they make is that we need to look at the followers of Jesus in a first century jewish context. Jesus was a rabbi who made disciples, who lived with the purpose of becoming like their rabbi in mind. They wanted not only to know what he knew, but to do as what he did, etc. The early church most definitely had this model to go off of--Jesus was the savior, yes, but he taught as a rabbi as well--when it was often a goal to become like your rabbi.

I'd say this alone means that followers of Christ need to strive to be like him....even though we will fail, likely many times.

Actually, Redeption helped in a different way...by indirectly reminding me to use the Search feature of my comp Bible.
