Oh how to describe AT..
AT is the place where the best dressed and talented young avi designers like to hang out and rip each others (and their own) avi apart for fun.
Many a n00b will perish in these parts.
Post here to rate/offer critique on each other ^_^

What attracted you to the AT forum? Like was it the community, or did you like making avatars?
Also, is the avatar arena a big deal in the forum?

The community for sure. There was not as much elitism and whatnot back then (i havent really been in there in the last couple of years)
I don't really make many avis these days (i seem to have lost my flair xP ) but i still stop in every now and then when i have some time ^_^
As for the arena...well people like entering the original one...but now that it has its own forum they are usually all over there xD

Once... maybe twice in my entire Gaian history have I stepped in to the forum and bravely stepped in to a "Rate Me" thread. I find my way of rating might be a little critical, and brutal. All the same, I don't make Rate Me threads, or ask for rating back because I'm afraid to be ripped to shreds.

o-o I never go into Avatar Talk because of stories... that and I like to change my avi a lot plus I don't think others like my style...

I like to post there every now and then.
I try to be honest but with sweetness. There's no reason to be mean haha. But at the same time you have to be able to take the ratings and critique you ask for.

Hi, folks. I'm an ATer, and have been one since 2004. I used to run the Avitar Talk mule, as well as several avi-fluffing threads, a gazillion rating threads, and I'm the winner of the second Tour of the Universe contest.
I'm also a furry, a member of a pagan-oriented guild and the Jewish Gaian's guild, a semi-lit RPer with a love of the English language, and a vehement opposer of the name of the Madame Gypsy item (see link in sig).

I have on rare occasion wandered into the AT forum but I generally flee. It's not just that the raters are brutal, they are; it's that they seem to not realize that their opinions are extremely subjective. There seems to be no room for someone whose aesthetic is different than theirs.
Perhaps I tend to be too easy to please when it comes to Avatars. So many people make so many amazing avatars on Gaia. Sometimes I think that some people try too hard to be 'original' and end up just being ugly. I'd rather see a pretty avatar that uses a shop set than a super original avatar that's just plain ugly.
