So, after watching a bit of news, I keep seeing the recurring theme of state-sponsored terrorism... different from terrorism supported by itself (through drug trade or whatever) and terrorism sponsored by organizations (ALF, etc.). Specifically, my mind wanders over to the middle east - there are multiple examples of such state-sponsored terror - situations where the government is using "taxpayer dollars" to fund IEDs, weapons research and who knows what else.
So, members of the Western world, what do we do about state-sponsored terrorism in the middle east? Other discussions welcome include (but certainly aren't limited to smile Defining terrorism, justification for terrorism, viewpoints from non-west/non-US, pre-emption* etc. Have at it! Maybe?

What do we do about it? The best answer I can think of is to try to improve life over there (where required), to help cut down on the conditions that breed terrorism. Such as opening factories and giving people steady jobs so they don't need to lean on terrorists (and associated organiztions) for any support.

First, let's look at what terrorism is. Systematic use of violence, terror, and intimidation to achieve an end. (Webster's University Dictionary) Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't the USA done all that? For example, the attack on Palestine Hotel by a U.S. tank. Lolz at Tragic Mime. anyways.
Whatever may be going on in the US these days, some people aren't as concerned with it as in the middle-east, as in they may have family there, or they see the acts going on there as "would be"s. Basically, it's happening there so it won't happen here.

Although I don't know details, and I'm sure few people do (because these kind of stories are not covered by corporate media) I can quote from a book: "What is not mentioned is that the United States has systematically promoted a terrorism of its own and has trained terrorists, from the contras to the mujahideen, the Honduran death squads, and the Indonesian military." This is from "Don't Think of an Elephant" a book by George Lakoff on cognitive science and politics. I'm assuming most of the incidents mentioned were not done out in the open. More likely they were orchestrated by the CIA or something. I would be grateful if someone else knew any more about these events, as I possibly wasn't even born when they occurred.
