Introduction

Espaia is a city that has has been built after a terrible cataclysm that took place in 2350. The city spans four levels both subterrainian and above the ground and is based upon a class system that is causing unrest amongst the citizens. Power and greed have corrupted the city and there is talk of a revolutionary group that has been formed in order to overthrow the government, there is no prrof however, that such a group exists.

It is now 2603, the current President will soon celebrate the 200 year anniversary of Espaia, and it promises to be a day, no one will soon forget.

History and Setting


Little is known about the world before the cataclysm that took place in 2350. Any and all records were destroyed in a futile attempt to hide the shame of what had happened or to be re-written as the greater powers demanded.

All that is known, by people who survived or by the few documents that managed to escape fire, is that in 2350 the world was dominated by three people who, eventually turned on each other, looking to gain more power for themselves, and ultimate world domination. The end result was the destruction of the land that they fought over. By this point many new weapons existed, some which could burn whole cities to the ground, those that could knock out electricity for an entire realm in a single shot, those that had dangerous gases that mutated or ruined the mind of those who came in contact with it.

Few survived the event itself, and fewer still as they tried to live in the waste lands. A multitude of people managed to reach the sea in search of water, some eventually learned to purify it, and thus humankind restarted.

It has been nearly 200 years since then, and in that time Espaia has flourished into an incredible city, regaining much of what it had lost. Due to the people wanting and savaging some of the relics of old, and getting those who knew about them to teach others, Espaia became as technologically advanced as the world before it had been, in some aspects, more so.

Greed prevailed as always however, in the earlier years, and people began demanding that there be some type of compensation. Money was introduced once more to the populace, and classes soon became apparent. It took some time but eventually the class system was in place and though they were a democracy, the upper class held more power and soon created a world in which they'd rather live in.

They determined that the city should also resemble the hierarchy of power, and thus the city was built vertically instead of attempting to spread itself on the charred land- the political reason for this was that building the city vertically would give the earth a chance to grow and repair itself.
They then sent the mutilated and diseased below the earth, the lower class was to live on the very ground that had been destroyed, while the upper class, setting up a commercial level between themselves and the lower class lived the closest to the sky and the fresh air, and the sunlight.

The only weapons in Espaia belong to the military, and to any person who can craft it secretly and keep it out of sight from the law. The reason being to eliminate any chance of the war taking place once more, therefore if only the President has power, no one can oppose them and no one gets hurt. It's not a reason many accept, even those in the upper class, though they abide by it as it has maintained order for the past 200 years.

This has been the way for over 100 years and the current President Michael Rowe is about to celebrate the 200 year anniversary of Espaia in two short years. The President has maintained peace and order in the city, much to the upper classes approval, but to the anger of the lower class.

The earth has managed to rebuild itself, the rain eliminating itself of most of the deadly acidity, leaving itself drinkable to anyone who dares it. Some vegetation has grown once more, and the sky has returned to it's blue color from the black. The sun's rays have become less intense, letting citizens walk freely outside without fear of being burned within a minute.

The current year is 2603.

Levels of Espaia


Upper Level: The Upper Level of Espaia is a residential area for the rich as well as the level that is closest to the fresh air and blue skies. The vegetation creates a beautiful sense of the past, with lawns in front of the houses, trees aligning boulevards, as well as parks for people to sit and play in. This not only brings comfort to those who see it, but it also fills the inhabitants of the upper level with a sense of righteousness as they are allowed to live alongside nature.

Large mansion type houses with swimming pools full of fresh clean water are the nature of every house on the level. There is a guard at each gate as well as patrol cars the roam the area at regular intervals- the primary concern of the law being the well being of the upper class. Those with the least amount of money for the area, which is well into the hundreds of thousands, can be found on the south side of the level, closest to the entrance of the Economy level which resides below. At the most northern part of the level resides President Michael Rowe himself, who keeps himself safely within the walls and attends to the affairs of keeping the order of things the same as it has been since the war and the creation of Espaia.

Besides the President, Jack Adamo- wealthiest man in Espaia, also resides in the Northern tip of the Upper Level. The Adamo Corporation owns many of the business on the Economy level of Espaia- the major Bank in the finance district, the Adamo Clothing Store, Ritz restaurant, as well as RE-LAX spa in the recreational district.
Adamo is a fearless man who isn't afraid to use force to get what he wants, and has done so in the past. Many people fear his wrath should they wrong him, and though it cannot be proven it is speculated that he runs the Ambersy clan.

Economy Level: The economy level is where all commerce takes place. It is divided into three separate districts: Art District, Financial District, and the Business District, each with their own individual concerns and specialties. Though the economy level is located below the upper level, it still receives plenty of sunshine; the upper level not spreading out as largely as the economy level, and the streets of the upper level being constructed to allow light to pass through. Each district is separated by a vast amount of space and requires one to take a cab to another district.

Within the Art district, located to the northern part of the Economy level, slightly past but not completely out of the upper levels shadow, one can find museums, theatres, art galleries, concert halls, street performers, as well as anything else that the public may demand to see. The main attraction here is the Winged Innocence Theatre owned and operated by Ren Eves, a man who though has a fair amount of money, lives in the lower level of Espaia. Many people know who Ren Eves is, but few know him personally, some purposefully, refusing to talk to someone who lives in the lower levels, but some because he is a man whom keeps to himself.

In the Commerce district, taking up the majority of the Economy level spreads from east to west and connects the Art district with the business district. The main attraction here is the multitude of stores, restaurants and recreational buildings. There are stores that offer the trendiest and most expensive clothing to stores that offer old styles as well as the more "rare" clothing. Restaurants serve any food possible, some with the finest and freshest ingredients, allowing for more exotic dishes, to those that serve the plain style food. As for recreation, any sort of legal activities can be found here, from gyms, to spas, to sport centers that allow people to watch and participate in a few sports that survived, to dance clubs.

The Business district, located at the south end of Economy level, is home to banks, law enforcement, doctors, dentists, as well as lawyers. Where the other districts are more colourful and there is much more laughter, noise and movement, the business district is quite the opposite. People who come here are those who are workers or those who wish to go in, complete their business and leave to do other tasks.

Maintaining peace here is the second concern of the law enforcement as this level combines both the upper class citizens as well as the working class and lower class who come from the level below. For the most part they have found their specific stores and segregated themselves without any animosity toward each other.

The Art District holds the entrance to the lower level while the business district holds the entrance to the upper level, leaving the commerce district as an almost neutral territory. There have been reports however that there is a passage from the commerce district to the lower level.

Lower Level: The lower level is home and partial workplace to both the middle class as well as lower class. In the Northern section, those who work in the Economy level live, while those who work making the products work in the southern end of the level, farthest from the light.

This level is situated on the earth itself, though much of it has changed from what it once was, there is little light, and absolutely no vegetation to speak of. Those who can't afford to shop or even travel to the economy level survive off the black market that has located itself in the center of the level. Here any discards that do not sell above are sent below and are sold for cheaper to the lower class, who find most of the food rotten and diseased.

The people who live here despise the upper class for making them live like this, almost as slaves, in the dark, in the dirt. The buildings are mostly tall skyscrapers that serve as apartments, cloistering as many of the people together as possible, with limited fresh air. In this level 75% of the population live, and many of them, especially the new generation feel ever growing resentment of the upper class.

Though there is talk of an revolutionary force called Evecah that plans to overthrow the president and abolish the class system once more, no evidence of such an organization has ever existed.

Underground: This is the final level of Espaia, and the only one that is sub terrain. Here the only light is artificial, and poor at that. It is home to generators, sewage, water pipes, and the criminals of society as well as the mutilated and deformed. 5% of the population of Espaia can be found here, the number increasing and decreasing depending on the deaths and criminals that are sent below.

The people here have grown up in a tough environment and have learned to survive through killing if necessary and bartering. Those who have found a way to make it up to the lower level to get food and clothing have made a good living by selling it to mass below. Those who can't make it to the lower level find other means of supporting themselves, either through gambling, prostitution, selling drugs, illegal surgeries, anything that can't be found anywhere else.

Though none would admit it, many of the upper class citizens come down to gamble, purchase drugs, or satisfy any other fix that they can't get from their own level. A rarer business, but one that is most expensive is the hiring of assassins and thieves; the outcasts and criminals who can look like a middle class citizens and one who can manage the job.

A prostitute by the name of Traylynne is one who knows everyone and everything that is going on in this level. Though she is not easy to find and won't make herself known easily, once she determines that a trustworthy person needs help she will be more than happy to assist them.

Weapons


More weapons will be added as the role play progresses. Also, should you come up with your own weapon, please PM me the name, description, and weight and I will determine wether or not it can be used.

AF75 Sniper Rifle
- Very large sniper rifle that uses a powerful laser to kill or destroy its target. It can hit a target up to about 30 miles away and the laser is capable of piercing though up to half a meter of steel in a couple seconds. Must be used while prone and requires 2 hands. Scope can be upgraded to use thermal imaging.
Weighs about 50 pounds.

Phoenix 35B
- The 35B is a plasma rifle made by Phoenix, a company the specializes in plasma weaponry. It is slightly shorter than most rifles, but is much more bulky and massive. A complex cooling unit worn as a backpack is required to use this weapon, and it is capable of melting just about anything. It is primarily used against vehicles, but it is effective against infantry as well. It is a fairly short range weapon, and is only effective up to 75 meters. It requires two hands to use, and the backpack mentioned about. After firing, it must be allowed to cool down significantly before firing again.
Weighs 35 pounds.

Phoenix 10C
- The 10C is a compact plasma pistol. The amount of plasma it fires is relatively small, so to be effective it needs to hit a critical area of its target, whether thats the victim's head or the motor of a tank. Much like the 35B, it has a cool down time, but it is much shorter than that of its rifle counterpart. It requires one hand to use, and has an optional cooling system that is attached to the arm which reduces the cool down time.
Weighs 7.5 pounds.

RCAM Deluge
- The Deluge is a submachine gun that uses magnets to fire needles. Due to the size of the needles (very small), it has very large clips, and it isn't necessary to reload often. Because the needles aren't very damaging, it is necessary to hit critical spots in the target for them to be effective. However, it is possible to acquire poisoned ammunition, which makes all hits count. This weapon is almost complete ineffective against anything with any manner of metal armour thicker than 2 centimeters and is effective up to 350 meters.

Standard Issue Combat Knife
- A basic knife made for the army, it usually has poison on it, but sometimes officers have ones with an electrical current running through the blade for disciplinary purposes. Requires one hand to use.
Weighs 2.5 pounds.

Close Combat Weapon
- The standard CC knife has a unit in the handle that makes the blade very hot, which allows it to cut through metal. It is also useful for various other purposes, such as creating fires and melting snow or ice. Requires one hand to use and it is also advisable to use a thick heat resistant glove when attempting to wield this weapon.
Weighs 2.5 pounds.

Denki no Ha
- The Denki no Ha is a knife that has an extremely strong electrical current running through the blade. It can be used to short out just about anything electrical, and is often used to send a shock through the opponent's weapon. Requires one hand to use and it is also advisable to use a glove that will stop the user from shocking him or herself accidentally.
Weighs 2.5 pounds.

Taser Cane
- The taser cane looks exactly like a normal cane, except it can be compacted significantly (think of those pointer things teachers have sometimes or antenna, like that) and it has a tiny button on the handle that sends a burst of electricity through the cane allowing it to be used as a taser. Is a one-handed weapon weighing 1 pound.

Netsu Tsurugi
-A Netsu Tsurugi is a fairly rare type of sword that uses recently developed heating technology to make its blade extremely hot, allowing it to cut through many surfaces that a blade would not normally be able to cut through. It weighs 15 pounds and requires one hand to use, but can be used with two.



Currency


In such a technological world, money has become nothing more than numbers in a digital world. Each citizen of Espaia is given a card when opening a bank account- a necessary part of life- one normally opens one upon turning 5 years old, at the latest.

The card contains all your money and financial information, meaning that it is the only way to receive money and the only way to purchase anything. The card is inserted into a small machine and a fingerprint is scanned confirming the user of the card, then money is digitally transfered from the card to the designated person. Companies use the same method when paying their employees, they ask each person to come in to an office, insert their card, scan their finger and then they deposit the correct amount into the card.

The system is relatively flawless, and the cities greatest computer experts are daily inventing stronger walls to prevent hackers from accessing an account.

~ Free-form RP - the action of the character is the express responsibility of their player, who must remain within the limits imposed by this RP and Gaia TOS.
~ Respect - acknowledge your fellow role-players and refrain from personal insult or slander; any criticism should be constructive and subjective.
~ No God-Characters - whilst characters are exceptional, they are not gods. They can be injured or die, just as anyone else in this RP.

~ No quoting of previous posts or OOC included - to keep the RP neat and flowing, any Out Of Character comments should be left here in the OOC sister-thread.
~ Language - Language is important in litterary works, and though I will allow the use of curse words, it must be under a circumstance where it is necessary to be used. I will not allow a player to continue to curse all the time so bare that in mind.

Failure to respect the rules of the RP or Gaia will result in player character nullification. Continued abuse will result in reporting to Forum Moderators.

Notes on Character Creation
Imaginative - try not to play to RP cliche or use pre-established characters from other media, be original and offer something to the RP.
Suitable - make sure your character fits the world; the only race available is human.
Frivolous - characters will have one maybe two exceptional items of war gear or weaponry, they will not be laden with extraordinary equipment.

Your profile will be the basis of rating whether or not you are a viable player for the role-play; so please show your writing flair and put your all into creating a character.

IC Post Format
In one quick summary, Espaia is intended to be a literary free-form role-play.

For a little more understanding, allow me to explain what I mean by that statement.

"What does it mean to be a literate?"
Considering oneself literate requires a few basics in your posting format, namely good grammar and spelling with an ability to write in a solid prose format - think your standard novel format, third person and past tense.

Posts in Espaia are to be at a two paragraph minimum, meaning a certain level of content is required for you to uphold in each post; do not be afraid to describe in detail anything which needs it, but remember that there is a limit to what needs to be said - do not write for the sake of writing, not every detail of any given moment is required in full lurid depth.

"What is a free-form role-play?"
Free-form role-play is effectively interactive prose, by assuming the identity of a fictional character of your creation and then working in tandem with the other players to create the events fitting within the story. There are however restrictions upon what exactly is "free" for this role-play, the setting of the world imposes limits unto which a player must adhere, also there are the rules of the role-play which must be met at all times - these include no godly-characters, no power-playing, a respect for fellow players and no omnipotence.
Being a free-form role-play also requires certain things from a player when it comes to combat; there are no systems in place to restrict fighting, only the imagination and respect of the player, therefore combat can be difficult and without a clear-cut winner - only by playing open-ended and responding reasonably can a fight be resolved, there are no instant hits nor perpetual perfect dodges.

All posts must be written in either size 9,10, or 11.

Name: My name is Faye Dior.
Class: I am part of the Middle Class.
Level: I live in the lower level nearest to the economy level.

Sex: I am a Female.
Age: I am 24 years of age.
Height: I measure at 5'8" in height.

Description: Always working and with just enough food I have a lean and muscular frame, with slighty tanned skin. My eyes are a deep blue and my hair is a golden blonde colour that ends just below my shoulder. My face is thin, soft, with high cheeckbones and thin lips.
Posture is important and so my back remains straight when eating, writing and walking. My steps are measured, light and silent, so that i have time to survey the area and see everything that is going on, no matter how little or trivial it may seem.
There is also a tattoo on my left shoulder blade, close to my spine, the letter E, though it is never seen by anyone.

Personality: I am a devoted and hardworking person who spends a great deal of my time at my job regardless of whether my shift has ended or not. I keep mostly to myself, conversing only with those I work with and those whom speak to me first. I am prone to helping others however, as I believe that in these days and times one must help others in need if our race is to survive. This trait has gotten me into messes before, and I have not always come out in the best condition, though that does not disuade my devotion to others.
Though I keep to myself and care for others, I can be assertive if I need to be, and when I am working, I tend to come off as cold and harsh.

History: Both my parents died to disease during the early ages of my life. My older brother took care of me until the age of 16 when I was able to live on my own and then he went and joined the military; he is currently a guard to one of the upper class citizens. At first I worked as a waitress, but after many visits to the Winged Innocence Theatre I was offered a job by Ren Eves himself and have worked there since the age of 18. I have moved up and am now the assistant manager, Ren Eves right hand woman.
I have had little contact with my brother since his move, but he still comes to visit me on occassion.

Occupation: I am the assisstant manager of the Winged Innocence Theatre.
Clothing: I can be found to wear a tight blue sleeveless shirt with a high coller that reached my jaw. Over that I wear a black waist length jacket that matches the smooth, yet flared black pants accented with a thin silver belt. My footwear comprises of black boots that rise to mid calf, though they are hidden under my pants.
For other accessories I wear silver dangling earrings, a silver bracelet and a black choker with a silver emblem in the middle that can be seen through the cut in the collar or my shirt.

Weapons: I own a Netsu Tsurugi that was given to me by my brother on one of his visits from the upper level. He was able to transport it thanks to his military past and gave it to me for protection since he could no longer be around. I keep the sword in my house and never bring it out with me. It remains hidden in my closet behind a fake panel of wood at the back of the closet.
