This is a journal for Proxility to use as he coaxes his Fenthry out of its feather and has lots of fun adventures with it.

Please don't post here unless Prox has given you permission!

Ieta
The little red and white feather suddenly pulls away from Proxility, rising quickly into the air, spinning slowly as though on some sort of rising, rotating pedestal. It pauses for a moment before descending, rapidly, as though a small weight had been attached to the shaft. There is a sudden explosion of blinding white light...and a tiny white fenthry tumbles onto the desk, staring up at Proxility with the utmost curiosity. Her white fur is as pristine as new snowfall, and her red hair and wings shine like garnet.

-Family-

User Image
Prolixity: Ieta's human. A fairly quiet catboy.
Ieta's opinion: Large and odd, but he's the source of toys and food, reads to her, and is a good hiding place. Belongs to her, anyway. He's Daddy.

User Image
Arrikanez: Prox's husband and closest friend. Somewhat volatile, but loyal and with a hidden sweet side.
Ieta's opinion: Can be scary, but belongs to her human, so is definitely okay. He's Daddy too. Atae belongs to him.

User Image
Anen: Prox's son. A quiet and thoughtful Fa'e child.
Ieta's opinion: A good place to hide, fun to play with, and can be induced to share his candy.

User Image
Orca: Arri's Blooded child. Curious and bright, but has an occasional violent temper.
Ieta's opinion: Can be scary, but talks to her, and called her "sister," so not THAT scary.

User Image
Atae: Fenthry belonging to Arrikanez. Has a sweet personality. Blind, and not very healthy.
Ieta's opinion: He's neat, and she needs to take care of him.

User Image
Maine: Ieta's twin brother, belonging to BunnyMayCry. Kagei's brother. Quiet and somewhat sour.
Ieta's opinion: Why won't he look at her, or play with her, or talk to her? It's distressing.

User Image
Teratus: Prolixity's Dream. Can be cranky, has a strange sense of humor, but old and wise enough to be an Elder.
Ieta's opinion: Weird thing! Big enough to ride on, but he wasn't happy when she tried.

User Image
Esiam: Arri's Dream. Quiet and watchful and protective.
Ieta's opinion: Another weird thing. A little smaller than the other weird thing.

-Friends-

((image pending))
D-chan Spiro: A kind foxgirl. Has two Fenthry, Kurenai and Koe, neither of whom Ieta has met long enough to have an opinion about.
Ieta's opinion: Wonderful person! Fun, and good, and makes TEA, and gave Ieta a pretty cup.

User Image
Younaei: Fenthry belonging to mahii. Cheerful, bold, and forthcoming.
Ieta's opinion: Fun! Maybe a little too active sometimes. But fun!

User Image
Nishan: Fenthry belonging to Perri Indiya. Shy and artistic. Doesn't like to talk.
Ieta's opinion: He draws! And he talks to her. That's neat. And maybe he's sort of cute.

User ImageUser Image
Skyfire: Fenthry belonging to Flamefire123. Nightstar's sister. Playful and outgoing.
Nightstar: Fenthry belonging to Flamefire123. Skyfire's brother. Very shy.
Ieta's opinion: Skyfire is fun! Nightstar is too shy and should come play.

User Image
Kagei: Maine's brother, belonging to BunnyMayCry.
Ieta's opinion: Nifty. He can talk really well.

User Image
Keydin: Fenthry belonging to Seirae Sakumasoto. Absolutely obsessed with pirates.
Ieta's opinion: Keydin is a lot of fun! He's good to play with.

User Image
Kurenai: Fenthry belonging to D-chan Spiro. Sweet and playful.
Ieta's opinion: She's really neat. She gave Ieta a ribbon.

Small things for her to look at and play with.

User Image
My gold spork. She's claimed it as her toy. Or her sword. Or something. I'm really not sure, but she won't let me have it back.

User ImageUser Image
Doll accessories, just her size - a brush and a small bag she can carry things around in. (The clerk gave me something of a funny look for buying these, but I don't care.)

User Image
Her key to the drawer I've set up for her to sleep in.

Candy. Oh dear.

A little mug with the Canadian maple leaf printed on it - D-chan gave this to her for her tea.

I have a Fenthry.

How odd. I'm sure I passed the shop in the street at least ten times before even looking at it. Then, yesterday evening ... it was like a tiny voice spoke up in my mind and told me to go in ... and there, in a case in the shop, was The Feather. Silly of me to capitalise it. But that's how it felt. The moment I saw it, I knew I needed it. Her. The feather is female. She's so beautiful.

Louhi has allowed me to care for her. I've named her Ieta. Her feather is tied into my hair. It's brushing against my shoulder as I write - an odd but oddly natural feeling. One of the Fenthry children was standing in that same spot earlier, and I imagine Ieta will stand there often.

I feel odd, feeling this obsessively affectionate over her. It's rare for me to feel such an immediate bond to a pet - no, that's not quite right, is it? I don't really feel I own her. Maybe more the other way around. I think it's a good sign, anyway.

Been dealing with a few things the past couple of days - Dream business and the like. Ieta's feather goes with me everywhere, and I am constantly aware of its presence. I had nearly forgotten what it is to have a constant companion like this - most of my pets and companions are absent now and then for their own reasons. Even Anen took naps as a baby.

I wonder how much she can percieve of the world at this stage, if anything? I'm not sure. Still, I have been taking care to show her things, beautiful views, interesting moments, small things I think she might like. We'll visit the shops in Barton later today and buy her some small toys for when she comes out.

I was reading this morning, and it occurred to me that Ieta might like to read along with me - so all morning, I have been reading Shakespeare to a feather! I forget that it sounds ever so much better read aloud. I'm not quite sure how good my "voice acting" is, but I did my best to be dramatic and do the different parts properly.

Now and then, the feather seemed to wriggle slightly, particularly when I hit a particularly dramatic passage. ... It's probably my imagination. But I do think she's listening. Perhaps I'll read more to her. My voice is a little hoarse, but I've really been enjoying it.

A Fenthry theater group - what a fun idea! I wonder if some of the more outgoing Fen would go for it. Ieta really does enjoy the plays, as far as I can tell.

I don't really know any of them except for Katsu, though... and he appears to think I make a good hiding place. I will try to talk to the little ones more. Maybe it will help me know what to expect when Ieta comes out.

Arri followed me to the shop today, and is talking about getting a feather of his own. Heh. I must admit I like the idea.

We met the owner of Ieta's twin brother today - May, a nice girl who has one Fenthry already. Her Fen says he does not like hearts, and suggested hopefully that perhaps Ieta will have a maple leaf instead. I will love her either way, though.

I picked up a lava lamp that matches Ieta's red color today, and have set it in the study. I need to pick up a few more things for her soon. May said she thinks that the things that a Fen feather is exposed to help shape its personality when it comes out.

We are going to the beach-house for a few days soon; a kind of family vacation. Ieta will, of course, go with us.

As I sat down at my desk today, there was a tug and a flutter where my feather was tied into my hair - a flash of light - and then Ieta was here, sitting right in the middle of my desk, looking perhaps a little confused. She examined my face carefully, then climbed up my arm and onto my shoulder, where she experimentally wrapped her tail up in a strand of hair. Then she sat down and swung her legs. Then ... she jumped back down onto the desk and began exploring.

I've had to rescue pens and pencils and paperclips. I had to keep her from dipping her hands in a bottle of ink. She thinks the sounds she can make by jumping on the keyboard of my computer are simply wonderful.

I'm going to have my hands full. I can tell already.

Ieta has met a few other Fenthry now; she played a bit with Skyfire and Nightstar the other day, and today she met her brother while we were in the shop ... well. He's still a feather, but she gave him a kiss anyway. She seems to understand that they're related.

She likes sweets a great deal. I've had to lock up the drawer with the bag of candies in it. She ate a good bit of a Jaffa cake while we were at the shop, and now she won't go to sleep. Chalk that one up as a lesson on the effects of sugar.

She doesn't make sounds much. She has tried to speak once or twice, but only seems able to make faint "s" and "th" sounds so far.

She's not particularly shy, but she doesn't come out to introduce herself until she's taken a minute to assess the situation. She checks everything in a new place; so far she hasn't done as much exploring in the shop as she could, but she's been distracted by the people there. Me, I think she's really quite bright. I could be biased, though.

She wants my pencil now. I think I'll let her have it and see what she does with it.

The blank space on the page is filled with wandering lines of pencil scribble, some of which have been drawn over the words.

Ieta found my gold spork today. It's just a trinket, a novelty that reminds me of a joke I had with a friend I miss, and I'd stuck it in a drawer and nearly forgotten it. Ieta pried the drawer open, found the spork, and is now parading proudly around with it.

It's as tall as she is, and luckily not too heavy, so she can wave it around and poke things with the tines. She poked me when I tried to get it back. When I said "Ow!" she came over and hugged my hand, though. I'm hoping that will teach her that she shouldn't, at least, poke people with it.

I wasn't using it for anything anyway, so I suppose it can be hers.

Not that I think I could take it away without a giant fuss. Heh.

Ieta is starting to speak now. She can say her own name, and is working on sounds. She seems to have a pronounced stutter, though. I hope this is not permanent. We'll practice. Perhaps Anen can help. He learned to speak very quickly when he became a kid.

Ieta made some friends in the shop last night. I knew mahii had a Fen, but I didn't know Perri did too. It's good to see some familiar faces. Perri's Fenthry, Nishan, draws - she has given him a little notebook and charcoal to use with it. He produced a lovely sketch of Ieta. I think I will see if I can find a small picture frame to put it in.

Speaking of familiar faces - Arri has a feather of his own now. A present. Ieta has examined it, given it a little kiss like she gave her brother Maine's feather, and keeps an eye on it when he is around.

Ieta played with some of the other Fenthry today, and got to meet Maine again. She really seems to like him.

It seems she's been paying attention to my reading and writing! She's writing. She informs me, somewhat clumsily, that it is difficult and painful for her to speak. Poor Ieta. Her writing confirms what I've suspected all along, though - she's understanding and wants to communicate.

... I made the mistake of stepping into the shop briefly to look at the new batch of feathers. One is calling me again, a male with beautiful detailed patterning. I haven't a clue what Ieta will think of that.
