Hey there everyone! I'm really sorry that I haven't been active in this guild in a while. I have been busy with school, and other stuff like that. I'm so happy that I don't have school today or tomorrow so I have more time to get onto Gaia. It then came to me, that since Halloween is coming up, I suddenly remembered something; so I decided to come here and discuss it.
Now, onto the discussion. I remember I went out to lunch with my mom after church once and we started discussing things that are good and bad in connection to our Christian religion and faith. It got me thinking when my mom said something like, "Halloween is a celebration that Pastor wouldn't really approve of because it is a celebration that sort of, plays around with dark spirits and other evil things like that." Then I really started thinking about that statement. I understood what my mom meant and all, but somehow, I don't really believe and think that Halloween is evil, because I only think of it as a fun celebration and it is really cool when we get to decorate our houses with dark and creepy decorations. It's not like I take it really seriously anyway. On the other hand, like my mom said, there are other people who think of it as an evil gimmick; who think those decorations somehow "attract" and "play around with" evil spirits and evil ideas.
So lets DISCUSS...
What do you think of Halloween? If you think it is evil, why? Is the idea of Halloween taken too seriously by Christians/etc. who don't approve of it? Trick-or-Treat? What do you think about that? And other things that concerns this topic of discussion...

Now. I told myself I wouldn't say anything mean about anyone's parents. So I won't. But I'll just put down, for the record, that I wanted to. I find her reasoning flawed, but then again, I see a lot of people's reasoning flawed. There are no supernatural forces at play on All Hallow's Eve. decorating your house in spooky stuff is not going to bring harm to anyone. Except those that get drunk and get arrested... whatever. There are no dark spirits, nor any supernatural evil. Halloween is an excuse to dress up stupidly for a day, get free teeth-rotting candy, and generally make a fool of yourself. Any other day of the year, and you get weird looks walking down the street as Aragorn or Spiderman. Halloween? There's seven of each walking down the block. People need to loosen up. Just my 2 pence.

You'd be surprised, spiritual forces are a little more real than you give them credit for. Although, the way the holiday is now, its really more on the commercialism side than spiritual, but because it is based on spirits etc. there will always be a select few that will try things they shouldn't. The main reason I can see Christianity condemning Halloween is the fact that it really doesn't glorify God at all.

PirateEire Lithanus You'd be surprised, spiritual forces are a little more real than you give them credit for. Although, the way the holiday is now, its really more on the commercialism side than spiritual, but because it is based on spirits etc. there will always be a select few that will try things they shouldn't. The main reason I can see Christianity condemning Halloween is the fact that it really doesn't glorify God at all. The Celtic pagans believed that there were evil spirits afoot on Samhain, which around the very same day as Halloween. Wouldn't the belief in evil spirits around Halloween be heretical? Answer: No. Explanation: Evil spirits and demons could be seen as the same thing. Revelation 12:7-9 And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down-- that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. The devil took 1/3 of all of God's angels (I'm not sure of where the reference of how many angels Satan lead is; that's just how many I was taught) with him when he was cast out of Heaven. Demons are actually fallen angels. So there's more than one demon, unlike how a lot of people I've met have thought. neutral Ezekiel 22:25 There is a conspiracy of her princes withing her like a roaring lion tearing its prey; they devour people, take treasures and precious things and make many widows within her. 1 Peter 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. What these two verses pretty much say is that demons and the devil are always around, including Halloween, waiting for an opportunity to destroy you/your relationship with God, and that they can work through other people, even those who claim to be Christian. Ezekiel 22:25 is talking about the Church, if someone didn't quite catch that.

Se Ga Takai discount Candy at practically every store in the world on November 1st. If it's wrong, I don't want to be right. Amen. That's the spirit of Halloween... giving kids so much damn sugar that they're wired for hours. Especially this year. Falling on a Wednesday and all... they don't need sleep.

It's all mine... ninja da Nekoro is thinking about giving out little things of Hot Chocolate instead, though. October is never a warm Month at our elevation, and while a Fairy Costume may look appealing when it's on the Shelf, it's not when the temp is below 40 (global warming can kiss my a**!).

Redeption Demons are actually fallen angels. Where's the scriptural proof for this? I have never seen a passage in the bible describe demons as fallen angels, nor vice versa. Gnostic texts on the other hand... Though, those aren't canon. I'm going to stand by my ideas that believing in the pagan myth that evil spirits are more active during the fall equinox... is heretical. 'cause I can. In other news, did you guys know that Satanism adopted Halloween as one of the big holidays? It's suggested that Satanists are wonderful Halloween party hosts. Ehm, I'm having a Harry Potter party on Saturday.

Bah, well, the drink shall flow! (I'm Irish, give me a break. XP) But it's mostly a small get together of close and geeky friends who would love to watch HP and dress up and stuff.
Also, I'm thinking of having a Quidditch contest thinger, using the PS2 game that... I one day hope to buy from EA to make not suck. ANYWAYS. It should be fun, but I do sort of wish more people were coming.
Petra is coming, and if Harry and Riddle have the night off, they'll be here too... I'd invite Mimiru, but she's like 16. Lives in Minnesota though. biggrin
