A towering white prison overlooking the Sokyoku Hill, the Shrine of Penitence is reserved only for those most heinous of criminals who have been sentenced to die by execution at the Sokyoku Hill. It is said that the shrine's name comes from the fact that it was built so that a tiny window in the prisoner's room would overlook the Sokyoku, giving them a view of the instrument of their impending death. This was to inspire them to muse on their transgressions, and to repent for what they had done before their execution.
