Question: Do we sin because we are sinners? Or are we sinners because we sin?

Discuss your opinion using biblical evidence to support it. Or just share what you think. (:

Tsk tsk. Circular logic.

Sin is wrongdoing, ultimately a choice. A choice in our nature we inevitably make a lot of times, and usually without our knowledge.

We are sinners because we're descendants of Adam and Eve. They chose to disobey God's command, and that was the original sin.

But hey, Jesus died for our sins, and as Believers, we accept Him as Savior and Lord of our lives. We have eternal life because of His death and resurrection.

Eh, I gotta be honest ... to me, this is a moot point. Regardless of why we sin, the point to remember is that we sin. Getting wrapped up in the Are-or-Because debate is ... not "denial", but avoiding taking the blame for ourselves.

I agree. We sin, and Jesus came to take away our sins.

Memo to self: don't try to start logical discussions about the bible with other Christians, because logic has nothing to do with our faith.

Perhaps not everything about Christianity is "logical," but God did give us minds to reason and be logical. Faith isn't always logical, but neither should it be blind.

Logic has everything to do with my faith. Logic is of God; the world is of God. Nature, science, everything that can be studied and analyzed is of God, and that means it links back to Him. No, God can't be proven because then there is no value in faith.

I didn't respond to this one in particular because I didn't see the difference between the two. It's like saying, am I a liar because I lie or do I lie because I'm a liar?

I'll use lying as an example, it's a type of sin. Everyone lies at some point. We're all liars. Dr. House understands this very well. But until the moment you first lie, are you a liar? It's inherent in your nature, but not a part of your label until you do it. But telling one lie leads to more lies, which leads to more lies. You lie because you're a liar, essentially, but you also are a liar because you lie. Sin is addictive; like Pringles.

I have to agree with Xi and 'bait on this one. xd

To lymelady: I don't think Dr. House could have just one Pringle either. razz

To Takahashi_Natsumi: I believe that we are sinners because we sin. The word 'sinner' is an adjective and defines who a person is. If a person was caring, we would not use that word to describe them until they showed proof that they were caring. We are sinners because we sin. That is why babies are considered innocent, since they do not sin. When it is that a baby stops being innocent and begins to sin, I do not know an exact age. The Bible does talk about those who ignorantly sin and those who willingly sin though, and that it is sin either way.

Numbers 15:28-30
The priest is to make atonement before the LORD for the one who erred by sinning unintentionally, and when atonement has been made for him, he will be forgiven. One and the same law applies to everyone who sins unintentionally, whether he is a native-born Israelite or an alien." 'But anyone who sins defiantly, whether native-born or alien, blasphemes the LORD, and that person must be cut off from his people.

I figured...I just wanted to chime in that I'm interested in logical discussions, especially about faith.

I thought you were being funny. Offensively inaccurate, but funny. Then again, considering how many "motivational posters" I find that criticize Christianity for being illogical, maybe I'm a bit sensitive.

And Lyme, if you're going to talk about House, shouldn't you mention Vicodin instead of Pringles?
PostPosted: Tue Sep 08, 2009 1:29 pm

Well, it's so much easier for me to understand Pringles addiction. I absolutely hate vicodin. But I suppose they're both addictive to some people!
