The largest part of Soul Society. Split into numbered sectors, Rugonkai is where departed souls first appear in Soul Society. There, they join together into family units for protection and fellowship as finding one's real family there is very rare. Since the Revolution the Nobles have fled from the lower numbered districts and now hold pockets of underground crime rings scattered throughout all the districts. They are particularly hard to find unless they come looking for you. Almost all of the districts are well taken care of and well maintained, and law and order has been restored to even the farthest districts. Crime is now run like the modern mafia, very hush hush, and very under the table.

Amidst the West Rukongai, somewhere within the 40th district lays a wide open piece of land, with just a single house on it. The house itself looks like nothing special, just a wooden feudal Japan style housing. What is known is who owns the property. Yorikatsu Kanau. Many in the area know him as being a helpful sort of fellow, for the right price. He is also known for bringing bad luck to any criminals who approach him for work. Usually something unfortunate happens to those seeking to cause pain to others. What isn't known is his relationship with the current Soutaichou, or why he keeps to himself. Still, for the most part, most feel he's just another part of their community.
{ This is more or less just to get where Kanau lives in place. }

Lanalee exited her Garganta, near Yorikatsu's home. She walked to the front door, and knocked on it four times. She then stopped and listened for moment intently. She wanted to see the only other Vizard she knew in existence. "Kanau, it's me, open up you lazy child!" She spoke up.

A rock fell to the ground, as if tumbling off the roof of the home the girl was knocking upon. A glance up would reveal that Kanau was laying on the roof, a straw hat shading his face as he watched the sky roll by. One might be able to think that it was him who had thrown or kicked the stone from it's prior spot and to below. "So much noise on such a peaceful day..." He got up to look down to the front of his house, where Lanal was still standing. He couldn't help but smile at the familiar face. A face that he had known for quiet some time. Despite their age difference, her being older, they were more like siblings, him being the elder. "To what, do I owe this... Lovely visit..?" He asked, genuinely curious.

"I'm troubled... something is going to happen. This peace... it is too... just too long-lasting. Can't you feel it? I just met a Bount earlier today, and saved her from Quincies, who sought her death." Lanalee quietly stated, leaning on the door.

Jumping down to her, he placed a hand on her shoulder. "You know that the Quincy and the Bount have been at war with each other since before anyone could remember. They're arch enemies. It's only natural that one would be hunting another. Just like the hollows hunting the plus', and our own disagreement with the Shinigami." 'Though, I wish that small fact would change... It's true that the nobility have been stripped of their power, and the Seireitei are heading into a new direction... but what is to become of the rest of us..?' He thought to himself, trying to keep a cheerful face on for his friend. This could be placed to his long time friend, but Kanau had already ruled that out.
He could feel though, that Lanal might be right. Despite all his feeling of wanting a maintained peace, something in this was amiss. Though, usually, Ikkaku hadn't been shy in those situations. Walking past her a bit, he thought he may as well have her show him what she knew. To at least have someone with her, and perhaps, get all this off her mind. "Come on, show me what you've found."

"Show you what? The Bount?" Lanalee stared at him for a moment. "I think what I need is a good spar. You feel like going all out?" She held her hand over he face, as though she planned to don her mask. She spread her legs, and unsheathed her blade.

"Oh..? So that's why your here..?" He asked as he kept his back to her, placing his left hand onto his zanpaktou. A black reitsu had already slowly, but surely started to collect from the ground and onto his face. A snap could be heard as his zanpaktou exited it's sheath. The moment that happened, Kanau vanished into a shunpo, slashing for a part of Lanal he knew she could block, or hoped. He knew his speed was fast, too fast for most. He's reappear on the other side of her, sword locking back into it's sheath, as if it had never been drawn at all.

Kanau was correct that she was indeed capable of blocking, and she did. She formed her mask, and then spun, charging towards him, whilst his blade was sheathed. She then randomly stopped, and aimed her finger to him, forming what appeared to be a laser. She then charged a massive pink cero, awaiting his movement.

Noticing that he was between her and his home, he shunpo'd towards her this time, slower this time so she could see his own fully formed mask. It was quiet demonic in nature, those curved eye slots barely showing his yellow iris', the iris' of his hollow. They looked into her, shimmering as if to look into her soul. Without drawing his blade, he charged to shoulder tackle her and push her arm up into the air, hopefully before she fired her Cero. If he could throw her off balance, he'd place one hand on her side. "Bakudō # 61: Rikujōkōrō" Six beams of light would appear to surround Lanal as Kanau shunpo'd away from her. They would close in quickly and attempt to imprison her.

Lanalee would not allow the beams to stop her. She had dealt with that kido before. She held the cero, overcharging it, though he held her arm, she would then unleash it into the air. Though the bakudo could hold anyone, a Vizard with a mask on, would not require much time nor strength to break free, more specifically a Vizard with her power. On top of that, he did not use the incantation, making that spell significantly weaker. She began to force her reiatsu out, weakening the beams as she went, however she was held for the time being nonetheless.

A haunting laughter echoed out of the mask, as he turned, raising his right hand, and chanting as he did. "Ye lord! Mask of flesh and bone, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, upon this sinless wall of dreams unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws." He paused for a moment, using his left thumb to flick his zanpaktou. Blue reitsu focused on his fingers, pointed directly at her. The hair coming from his mask started to fly around him before he fired the kido. Though, he vanished into a shunpo, the next words coming from the space around their duel to be a bit familiar. "Control, Genkaku!" The Kido had been a farce, and the next Lanal would see Kanau, instead, she would see her deepest fear. His next location would be to her left, of her last position, about thirty yards away. He held his shikai zanpaktou, a black blade with bat-like wings for a hilt.

She finally worked her way, breaking free of the bakudo which restricted her. She saw what appeared to be her mother. Logically, she knew for a fact that her mother was dead, and probably somewhere else in Soul Society. She remembered she was in a fight, though the sight of her did somewhat shake Lanalee. "I walked through the Valley of Death and Shadow. I will fear no evil." She repeated to herself. "Phoenix, enrage!" She called out, her zanpakuto released in shikai form. The fiery prison soon formed around the two of them. "Way of Binding: No. 30 Shitotsu Sansen!" Forming a golden triangle, she shot it towards him, in hopes of slamming him into a flaming wall. She then sent two separate chains towards him at either of his sides. If he moved, they would follow.
Shikai [ Raging Flame Prison ] - A rectangular fire prisons surrounds the battlefield, allowing no escape unless it is somehow broken through. In a similar manner to bakudo, a chain of flames move like snakes around opponents, and attempt to constrict them. The fire also burns the opponents causing damage. Her blade becomes a long two-handed sword.

Her mother, or so it would seem, was now completely surrounded. Kanau wasn't sure why Lanal feared her mom, but he could guess that she might not be able to deal with the fact of hurting her mother, ever. He decided to use that against her. As the Bakudo spell struck him, he used his visage to call out to her. "Lanal... Please! Don't you recognize me..? I'm your mother... Don't hurt me... I just wanted to see you again... To be a family again..." She'd get pushed towards the wall of fire. In the real world, Kanau was using his hair to make himself a shield so he wouldn't strike the flames directly, but, the image of Lanal's mother could be seen striking the wall head on, and burning slowly. Her screams and crying could be heard, her face in shock of why she was being attacked.

"...You used to beat me so... enjoy it b***h." She coldly stated. She then closed her eyes, and moved the two whips directly to Kanau, he was being held in place despite avoiding being burned. The two whips would begin to wrap around his waste, and arms, and they would inflict damage. "...Wait... Kanau. 2nd Division is in trouble." She looked around for him, remembering that his zanpakuto was illusionary. She then released her shikai, freeing him. "Quickly, we have to help. I just received a Hellfire Butterfly from a friend of mine." She kept on her mask, as she quickly shunpoed off to 2nd Division.
