In an effort to expand the focus of the guild, I'm starting this thread. Feel free to take the lead set by it and create threads about your own favourite series/books/games/whatever.
I will try to keep spoilers in white.
Mortal Engines Quartet By Phillip Reeve
This series is made up of four books, though there are others outside of the series. But I've yet to read them so I wont focus on them.
Mortal Engines Predator's Gold Infernal Devices A Darkling Plain
The series is split in two sections. Mortal Engines and Predator's Gold take place a couple of years apart from each other, and Infernal Devices and A Darkling Plain take place about 6 months apart from each other, but the two take place around about 15 years apart.
So the first two focus on Tom & Hester in their late teens, while the last two focus 15 years later.

Mortal Engines This book focuses around the great city of London, the first traction city ever built. We learn about the traction cities and the uneasyness with the Anti-Traction League, collection of static cities (non-moving) that live mainly in China protected by a great mountain range.
The world we know is gone, and most of Asia and Europe is mud from the great cities tracks. They hunt each other, bigger cities eating smaller ones, smaller ones eating towns, towns eating villages and so on, in a great circle. Corruption, slavery and discord is alive in the world.
The technology is similiar to steampunk. Airships (the secret of heavier-than-air flight lost to the ages) are the norm, their pilots called aviators.
The plot focuses around a London apprentice historian, Tom, who has been thrown from the City along with an assassin (Hester) as they try to catch up with London. Meanwhile London has discovered MEDUSA, a weapon from the ancients of great power (think super energy weapon). Along the way they meat up with Anna Fang, a league agent as they catch up with London.
That's really all I'll say, but I will encourage anyone looking for a read to give it a try.

Predator's Gold The second book in the series, this one now focuses around the city of Anchorage, found in the Ice Wastes of the north. After their population was mostly wiped out by a plague, their leader, a 16 year old girl (Freya) has finally decided what to do: return to the dead continent, North America.
Tom and Hester return as the main characters (and a couple) and their adventure entangles them with Anchorage's fate.

Infernal Devices The third book is set 15 years later. Tom and Hester have a daughter, Wren.
They adventure back into the world, discovering how things have changed, how the world has been at war for 15 years.
This book ends with a cliffhanger, Hester admits her betrayal and leaves Tom and Wren alone.
