It was almost night in the swamp. Everything was looking dark and dreary, but he didn't care. Fortune knew something was about to happen. He'd felt like this every time something big happened; all jittery and excited. He couldn't sit still right now. Usually, he was a calm Kin. Calm and collected and sometimes cold, but he didn't mean to be. He joked with his friends and regarded everyone else with a calculating eye. He didn't mean to. It's just how it happened. His guard was down right now because of the excitement. "What's going to happen?" His deep voice spoke to no one, falling on the ears fireflies that didn't respond to him. They simply swirled and blinked their lights in a calm manner. They didn't know what was going to happen. They didn't even seem to feel the same excitement he did. How odd.
He pushed that thought to the back of his head as he entered one of the pools of muddy water. The scent of rotting leaves and logs filled his nose. Instead of being repulsed by it, like any creature not from the swamp, the Kin inhaled the aroma like it was a fine wine. Crossing that water to the other side, Fortune found his hooves starting to get stuck in some thick mud. ".... Perfect." He was struggling to get free, his head down, focusing all of his attention on his hoof movements.
