I don't have any real facts to back this up. So if you want a census I don't know where you'll find one. I'm speaking from personal experiance.
I believe there is a new form of child abuse on the rise in the U.S. and I think it's about time it's addressed.
Every year thousands of children throughout public schools are singled out as to having ADD or ADHD. This usually leads to medication which at first is ritalin. If this doesn't work it leads to more diagnosis such as bipolar.
From personal experiance... My mom had a case of munchousen syndrom. She was constantly taking me to psychological phacilities and dropping me off. That shouldn't be allowed in the first place. All she had to do was take me to enough crises centers in one night before they would allow some people to take me away in a white suit and lock me up for a week or two. When this began I was only six.
Some experiances while I was being thrown in and out of these phacilities for 11 years were horrible and not legal. For example when I was six I started to throw a fit because I was in a hospital where they had drawn my blood a literal four times during the night previous and I couldn't sleep because I missed my mom, but they told me to go back to my room. When I started crying and screaming that I wouldn't four men tackled me to the ground and threw me in a secluded room, where I spent the rest of the night screaming. Theraputic right?
Or when I was eight they refused me my glasses (which I had to have to see or I would literally run into walls) because I refused to take a shower then they restrained me because I refused to go to breakfast (afraid to walk without my eyes). At that same age they started coming in my room and shining the light in my eyes to wake me up at all hours.
At 12 I was in another of those secluded rooms because I had broken one of the rules (I think I had a pencil in my room) anyways, a few of the staff on hand thought they would have some fun with me and they started telling me to bark like a dog and asked if I liked my cage. I had to do it or they would have painfully restrained me. When I asked to file a grievance nothing was done about the incident which I was told beforehand would happen.
Finally at the age of 17 they harassed me with tests to try and keep in their system for another six years after I turned eighteen (because they can keep you if you are insane). So they sent me to this place where I saw a shrink for perhaps fifteen minutes. After that fifteen minutes I came out with two new diagnosis. I asked the clinitian at the center how he could do that and why. She said they didn't get any funding unless they gave me a diagnosis.
Not to mention the fact that I have one kidney and they never checked my charts before giving me Ritalin, Adderall, Adderall XR, Zoloft, Lithium, Depakote, Clonodine, and Seraquil. Half of which my pediatrician said I shouldn't have been taking.
After all of this I went to a psychiatrist to find out what he thought was wrong with me (paid out the a** for it too) and he said all that was wrong with me was that I was a little strong-willed. I had no signs of everything I was diagnosed.
Now one of the horrible things about this system is that children at the age of two are stuck in these places going through exactly what I went through and if that's not abuse I don't know what is. I'm not sure what can be done about it. Anyone have any ideas?
