One ******** word.

UGH.

This year's Halloween plot is even shittier then the last, and shittier then the other little half assed "plots" (and I use the term loosely) that Gaia vomits every holiday.

They base their plot off of spoofs, parodies, and utterly random stuff. Their plots look like one of those chatterbox threads where everybody contributes. Not a bad idea at a glance, but when you realize that DUMBASSES are taking part, it really screws over the storyline.
Gaia bends over to everything that the user's want, from more starter items, to housing, and now to plots, as you can see where Gaia is basing it's plot upon what the users want from a little while back.

WHY?

Can't they think of something original?
I mean it doesn't have to be serious and all...it could be incredibly "zany" as Gaia doesn't seem to want to do anything that is serious.
Like Gambino's death. That was partially original.
But it seems Gaia can't keep it's characters dead. Which sucks.
Sometimes, I just wanna see some of the gargantuan noobs they have for NPCs (Rina anyone?) just get assassinated by a disgruntled customer who doesn't wanna pay too much for an item, or is tired of reading the newscaster's little QUIPS and awesome in-depth character.

The future of Gaia is based off of those.
From items to new users to the whole layout to avatar changes to new features. >_>

Bleh.

They're pretty crap plots.

Ohwell.

I remember back in the days when there was no storyline.

The nice thing about Gaia plots is that if you don't like them, you can readily ignore them.

This is a Halloween event. Halloween. A holiday based (in a modern sense) on cheap, transparent, consensual fright, often accompanied by cheesiness and borrowed references from other sources. As Gaia attempts to be a light-hearted, fun sort of site, as opposed to a more serious one, this sort of parody is exactly the sort of thing I'd expect. As I like Gaia's original idea more than the actual execution, I like this storyline. Also, it's a rather good parody of something that simply can't be mocked enough - Tom Cruise and Scientology.

If you attend an opera looking for rock 'n' roll, you're probably going to be disappointed. If you go to a Mongolian BBQ and expect to be served filet mignon, you're leaving hungry. It's just common sense. So why do you go to a brightly colored anime-themed site aimed at all ages and expect them to throw in an original, dramatic, mature plot on the house? It makes sense that, if such a site offers a plot in the first place, it's going to be simple, cheesy, and probably derivitive. That's part of the charm of the whole thing.

When critiquing music, you can't let your dislike of its genre interfere with your judgement of how well it fulfills its intended purpose. A movie critic who doesn't like romantic comedy should judge a romantic comedy based on how it would satisfy fans of the genre, not his own personal distaste. You all are reading a freely distributed "all ages" manga and expecting it to be quality mature literature. And I think that's sad.

I said they could be quirky and not serious at all, but ORIGINAL and non-mocking.
They could easily think of an original odd idea like sometimes they do without making fun of Scientology. And aliens.
I respect Scientology, simply because it's an awesome idea and I'm pissed I didn't think of an enterprise like that before Hubbard.

That's alright, I think I'll have a sufficient amount of fun during the events, if nothing else because it will break the monotony of the Gaia experience. And hey, aliens!

It's a good thing they don't have deep, involved plots anyway. That'd make it hard for new users to understand the storyline.

That said, the Ron Bruise thing is pretty retarded, at least. 19 octave vocal range? XD

Wasn't the guy who created Scientology quoted as saying, "The best way to get rich quickly is to create a religion"?

So, you think Gaia should spend a portion of its income on a professional writer?

I think they should instead spend that money on hardware, and on people who can fix the damn bugs in the site, like layering issues.

Also, parody storylines are great because they have a familiar element. They are therefore more easily accessible.

Sure they could. If they wanted to go to the effort, and really, why? When they can go the easy route, make a derivitive story that people will understand immediately, and get in a few jabs at the most obvious joke religion ever, why not take the opportunity?

You respect forming a science fiction religion with gross historical inaccuracies as central tenets of its beliefs, and turning it into a scam to get people to buy redemption? Especially when said science fiction religion encourages people to reject science, oppose the treatment of mental illness, interfere with the treatment of non-believers, and kill people who become inconvenient to the organization after they've been fleeced for as much cash as possible?

... Wow. Any highly successful thief, rapist, and murderer should be able to gain your respect.

1. It doesn't take a professional writer to write incredibly zany stuff. I'm not talking about full-fledged novel ideas here.

2. Keyword: "easy route"

3. I don't respect some of the methods used, but I do respect Scientology as a whole for being able to MARKET a religion. Anyone who can charm and persuade a man to give all his money and life to a religion so absurd it makes Forest Gump go "FTW?D=" then that person isn't exactly moral in my opinion, but he accomplished something that most people would laugh their asses off at. The sheer absurdity and the reasoning makes it funny. And that's why I half-respect it. It's more of a con-artist then a serial killing theif. Scientology stopped it's plans of "dealing" with non beleivers years ago.

Short stories are just as hard. And original short stories that achieve the same easy accessibility that parody does are the work of a master.

Except how it's not. If the easy way also happens to get a desired result, why complicate things needlessly?

In Florida, Scientologists are currently opposing the creation of a suicide hotline for teens, because it uses psychology. As any good Scientologist knows, psychology is a science designed to mislead people about the causes of evil in their lives, and must be stopped.

That, and people who bottom out, realize that they've given their entire lives away to the Church of Scientology, and begin to speak out tend to meet with mysterious accidents.

Respect it as an awesome idea for a prank, if you want, but people are being destroyed by this cult created as a joke and a money engine for a science fiction author.

I agree, although it's not bad per se. It's simply what I'd expect. Then again, this will be my first event. I was hoping it would be a bit better, but I don't particularly care either way.

i miss the zombie thing. that was a halloween event, right? even though that was some chaotic s**t, but it was kinda fun for a minute and had the zombie avs and the coats and stuff.

i suppose this event is eh, but i'm not really on here enough to care. i think i missed the one last year entirely. actually, i don't really have an opinion on it right now because i didn't bother with reading any of it. perhaps i'll go do so now.
