Okay so while on my break at work on friday night, my co-worker michelle and I had our break at the same time.
Now, at my work I am an open Athiestic Satanist. I am open because since I work at a pretty much ALL christian place I had gotten asked so many times by co-workers ect "what church do you go to?" ect ect....and I got fed up with giving the excuse of "I dont feel like saying" "its non of your business" ect. So I just admitted it so they would shutup. I don't go around my work yelling it or showing it. I don't care to gloat about my religion or show it off. What I want to believe is really only my business. I don;t even tlak about relgiion at work unless someone else brings it up.
Anyway back onto the topic. She and I were sitting down, and she is the same age as me (1 cool and she is very faith believing. Highly christian, and very devout. We started on the topic of sex and how she doesnt hink I should be having sex with my fiancee (who i have been dating for almost 5 years, infact 12/10/06 will be year 5. We are getting married in spring of 2007. I lost my virginity to him after our 3rd year of dating. She says things about how he could leave me and I could leave him and how it would hurt, ect. because he took my virginity. But that isn't really the main point. It then managed to get onto the topic of religion, and she knows my stance, I know hers. So after we talk and go around in circles on why I'm not christian, why I won't give it a chance, ect. She says something that i find funny.
"Lilith why don't you do me a favor, do you own a christian bible?"
"Yes, Michelle I do. I own two of them, and they both have my name inscribed in them, given to me by my parents years ago. Why?"
"Well why don't you pick up the bible, read it cover to cover this weekend and tell me what you think. Maybe you'll refind your faith."
Now of course that isn't happening, because I was a christian for the first 10 years of my life. I did not become a Satanist until after 2 years of looking deeply into satanism before deciding it was right for me. So it wasn't a spur of the moment thing. I gave her religion a chance, and it didnt suit me. So why would I bother doing it again?
Now, my response to this is logical and fair. Well it seems it isn't to her though.
"Well Michelle, I'll tell ya what. I'll go up into my attic and grab one of my bibles, I'll read it cover to cover for you on one condition. You have to read my bible hell even just one chapter."
She refuses stating that she believes if she reads the satanic bible, even if she does not decide to practice it, or think it to be real, or whatever. That if she just picks up the book and read it, she will go to hell. For reading a book?! Insane, and in my opinion stupid. Now I'd understand if I had been 'read my bible you will see it is THE TRUTH!!' I'd understand she wouldn't wanna read it. But, I only asked her to do the same thing she asked of me. I didn't push it down her throat or nothing, I merely figured if I read her book, she should at least read some of mine. It's fairness. To each their own though.
I really would have read the bible if she had done the same for me, I'm a person who believe in fair trades.
Now then what dicussing should be goin on:
People trying to get you to practice their religion People not caring about fair trades Closed minded people Stubborn people who don't know when to give up on trying to convert you Bibles Work (with or without religion)
Do you think you'd go to hell if you read my bible? (Remember its Pirates bible too..)

Since the only hell I believe in is the town in Michigan, that would be a 'no'. I want to read the Satanic Bible. I really do. I just haven't found it anywhere yet. But to Michelle, that's a bunch of crap. She won't read yours, because 'she will go to hell'. Great. By merely accepting you as a person, she may or may not end up there anyway. It's a bok. Books never harmed anyone. It's how you apply the knowledge therein. And how you use the book. People forcing religion down my neck... I laugh at those foolish people. I really do. While it may not be obvious that I am an atheist, until you talk to me, once the subject of religion invariably comes up, I merely smile at them and make them question their beliefs. I'm all about fair trades. Sure, I try and get deals. But those times that I am successful are few and far between. I am completely for fair trades. Especially in the area of knowledge, of any variety. And about the other stuff... I'll type more later. I be tired... and hungry... food time.

why would anyone go to Hell for reading a book? xd
but honestly, i don't see the point in someone reading the religious text of a different religion than their own. i know if i read the Satanic Bible, i would think it's a bunch of garbage after one chapter and stop reading it. maybe if you're trying to find information on the religion you'd read it, but there's reference books you can read instead. so basically i don't see why you should read the Christian Bible. i honestly believe that there is only a small margin of people that could be saved from reading the Bible alone.

Seriously, though. My Brother, he could probably go through the Bible in, about a Month. Weekend? That's why people have Personal lives, They're not Monks.
In the past 22 years, I have yet to get through teh entire Bible without missing a few parts here and there, the expectation to get through it in a weekend is ridiculous, if you do that you miss plenty of things and end up with a skewed view.
Like, y'know, reading a Book will send you to hell. Ridiculous stuff like that blaugh

OH! Just remembered somethign in Context.
I live in Utah(as many know), and in Utah, there are a Plethora of Missionaries, as the LDS Church calls essentially every (Male)member to serve a Two-Year Mission.
When I was about 17, My dad and I were out working on his Chevrolet('55, his first car, we've been restoring it for the past decade. Just barely got the Engine in), when a pair of Missionaries walked up. Well, my Dad was an Elder at that time(still ordained, it's just that he's not required to fulfill that position in teh Church anymore) and preached often that you welcome Missionaries. Well, Welcome he did, and he opened equal discussion with every missionaries, these included.
Well, they started trying to convince my dad to get Baptised, and my Dad is already Baptised in the Name of Christ(Our Family is strongly against teh notion of getting baptised in teh name of any Church, we believe that Christ is our Salvation, not any Organisation). My Dad refused, and as they pushed the Subject, my Dad asked them to leave. At that point, one of them piped up;
"You know, I have a bit of experience restoring cars..."
ooh, buddy, my dad laughed at him a goood bit xd

yeah...hell for a book? not so much.
I actually like learning about other religions, including reading the texts. Some get me to put them down way faster than others, though. I've yet to actually pick up a copy of the satanic bible (just websites thus far), but some of the time, I just can't keep reading religious texts.
with the Bhagavad Gita, the Vedas, teh Qwran, etc, I was always able to read a good deal of it before moving on...but, some texts...
take for isntance, my recent attempt to read up on Scientology. yeah. I gave up fairly quick. when I can do nothing but laugh at the notion that someone would take the thing I'm reading seriously, it's time to put it down. siriusly.
but, yeah. ..... pretend I ended this post somewhat back on topic, k?

"We aren't christian.." "What?" "lets just say the religion we are is often misunderstood..." "Which religion are you?" "Athiestic satanists..." "Oh....well...god still loves you...and thank you again...we shall...pray for you..." "okay have a nice day, glad we could help." and we walked off.. :3

Lilith Delost Quote: Books never harmed anyone. It's how you apply the knowledge therein. And how you use the book. Exactly I disagree. Get a Hardback with a Good swing, and it has the possibilities of some pretty serious damage 3nodding Or, just reading the textbook for being a Certified Novell Administrator can cause some serious deathwishes. Halfway through the first semester, half my class wanted to kill teh Instructor. How is thatnot harm? razz

Bah. I think I've commented on this story in one of the other two to three places you posted it, Lil. razz
So! Instead, commenting on the discussion: If you are a Christian, you will hate The Satanic Bible. LaVey is pretty straight forward about what he thinks about Christianity. My girlfriend tried to pick it up, and though she doesn't have a religion, I think she might be leaning more towards Theraveda Buddhism (which could be problematic as it is Satanism's polar opposite.)... She hated it, because LaVey does "bash" a good handfull of religions.
So Takai, I can guarantee you will think it is garbage if you pick it up.
Jazz -- you might really, really like it. ^^;
Rowena, you might be offended by it slightly. razz

I'm not too fond of any Religion that sports the founders name(Though, I can accept teh son of God...he didn't say to name it after him, anyway). Sounds too prideful, like he's stuck on himself. And no offense, but from what I've heard of LaVey...He's not the most Pious of Men.
