Why is it that everyone seems to be against Christ in tis world. We know as Christians that Satan is the Prince of the air, and obviously deceives people, but people don't just stop at not believing in God, but they attack God! It just seems like some people will be satisfied if they can just attack God. Have any of you noticed that? For example, some athiests I've heard about have not only said "I don't believe there is a God," but will attack your faith. Also, the world seems content on attacking Christianity. It's funny how no-one ever cracks on Islam, or HInduism, Bhuddism(spelling?) etc, but only on Jesus Christ. They're fine with other religions, so why not let us be? Because they're against Christ. It seems that someone who makes a joke about God will always be the cool person. Has anyone else noticed this antichrist spirit? Shouldn't this be proof enough to why Jesus Christ is real? Because the world attacks him like it says in the word. I guess I don't have a completely set topic, but I hope this makes good discussion sweatdrop

To put it in simpler terms, shouldn't people come to Jesus because everyone attacks it, thus seeing how blind they were?

I'm really not sure where you get the idea that Christianity is the only faith that people mock. I mean, I live in a mostly secular area, and Christianity is so not the only religion on the list of things to mock.

I do admit it can be frustrating, though, to live in a society that sees our faith as somesort pool of jokes (even if they are sometimes pretty funny... ninja ).

But the bible tells us that we will be persecuted as Jesus was persecuted, so I figure, suck it up and deal.

They also attack other religions/beliefs especially those who have weird or different point-of-views and/or practices than what they usually know.

woebert
It seems that someone who makes a joke about God will always be the cool person.
- well, in some places - yes, they're the cool person, but in other countries where a certain religion is firmly established, they're the "bad guys".

woebert
Has anyone else noticed this antichrist spirit? Shouldn't this be proof enough to why Jesus Christ is real? Because the world attacks him like it says in the word. I guess I don't have a completely set topic, but I hope this makes good discussion sweatdrop

Well, anti-Christ or even before Christ, (an atheist) people ALWAYS ridicule, insult, and/or persecute those who do good and most especially those who believe in God. Well, maybe not ALL of them but most of them do. The thing is Christians just need to show these people how much God loves them through concrete examples not just by stating or quoting bible verses. I believe, our actions, and/or how we live our lives are the first "bible" these people will read.

How did I, the resident Satanist of this guild, miss this topic? eek

I'll go about this in a traditional ED sense. Disection.

woebert
Why is it that everyone seems to be against Christ in tis world.
Because the human mind tends to focus more on negative things than positive--hence, you may have heard a few people say something against Christ and/or Christians, you might believe that a majority of people are this way, only because your mind seems to be negating all the people who don't hate Christianity, and those who love it. Your mind is overexaggerating, and so are you.

woebert
We know as Christians that Satan is the Prince of the air, and obviously deceives people, but people don't just stop at not believing in God, but they attack God!
All people? Most people? There's that overexaggeration again.

woebert
It just seems like some people will be satisfied if they can just attack God.
And you realize that most do so because of their negative experiences with Christianity? Unfortunately, some people think that Christianity supports the bigoted, hateful nonsense that it seems a large as hell chunk of the religious right advertizes, when in fact, it does not. Not everyone is Ghandi, though. He had a fine grasp of Christianity, and yet, did not approve of those Christians who directly defied Christ's laws of love.

Understand, that a lot of people are going to think that bigoted Christians are following their teachings precisely, if they have never actually read into the religion themselves.

I can testify with personal experience on that. In my early teenage years, I knew Exodus and Leviticus only. biggrin Now, I daresay I understand, at the very least, the Bible, better than a loooottt of Christians.

woebert
Have any of you noticed that?
Yep.

woebert
For example, some athiests I've heard about have not only said "I don't believe there is a God," but will attack your faith.
That you've heard about, or dealt with? Yes, there are some atheists who will attack one's faith--just like there are Christians who will attack one's beliefs.

woebert
Also, the world seems content on attacking Christianity.
The whole world?

woebert
It's funny how no-one ever cracks on Islam, or HInduism, Bhuddism(spelling?) etc, but only on Jesus Christ.
Holy misguidance, Batman! Do you not watch the news? Tell me that Islam is never "cracked on." Hinduism is also the butt of many jokes, as is Buddhism. I can certainly offer some real criticism about Buddhism as well, and I've heard others do so as well. Difference is, none of those religions have a great deal of people trying to convert others or condem others (radical Islam not included. biggrin ). In the Western world, Christianity is the largest religion. Period. People have a lot of exposure to it if they happen to live amongst a Western civilization.

Of course Christianity will get more criticism here than say, Hinduism, because most people in the Western world don't have to deal with Hinduism, but do have to deal with Christianity.

woebert
They're fine with other religions, so why not let us be?
Proof?

woebert
Because they're against Christ.
Or are they against Christians?

woebert
It seems that someone who makes a joke about God will always be the cool person.
Proof?

woebert
Has anyone else noticed this antichrist spirit?
Not as much as I have noticed a predominantly Christian anti-other-religions spirits.

woebert
Shouldn't this be proof enough to why Jesus Christ is real? Because the world attacks him like it says in the word.
Not evidence enough. It's only rational that most of the world will not adhere to a single religion. Christianity started as a strange little Judaic cult. Not a lot of people agreed with it. Is it really all that surprising that not all people follow Christ?

woebert
I guess I don't have a completely set topic, but I hope this makes good discussion.
That'll do.

woebert
To put it in simpler terms, shouldn't people come to Jesus because everyone attacks it, thus seeing how blind they were?
A fair majority of those in the Western world that attack Christianity were raised Christian.

tomoyou_daidouji

Good point, here are some more to go along with those,
*God's word is the foundation the U.S was formed on, and everyone hates the U.S.
*Bush is a believing Christian, and activley following God. Everyone hates him (and please don't argue about how much Bush sucks. I Know how you feel and I don't care.)
*Everyone fights God, especially those who say He isn't real. I want someone to come up to me and try to prove He isn't real so I can say, "If He isn't real, why are you trying so hard to fight Him?"
No one fights off an enemy that isn't there with all their heart. So that just proves even more that God is real. The devil is just making everyone fight God and make people hate Him so more will turn away from Him. If it isn't cool to be a christian, then why would worldly people want to check it out? Most people only come to God when they feel him, and really need them because they have hit rock bottom. Plus Jesus did say, "because the world hated me, so will they also hate you. They will persecute you because they also persecuted me. Because you are my follower."

Uh... no, it's not.

Trista Din
No one fights off an enemy that isn't there with all their heart.
Name one atheist that "fights off" God. You will find atheists who feel threatened by Christianity, which is indeed there... no question. Some of them might "fight" Christianity. It does not mean that they secretly believe in God nor anything of the sort. To assume otherwise is pretentious.

Trista Din
So that just proves even more that God is real.
No, it really does not.

Trista Din

Why would the devil make people fight God when he actually works for God (read the Book of Job) as a tester of faith?

As the resident Atheist, it's my turn.
Sure. Blame Satan. He's not the only one deceiving people.
Pope Innocent II. He's one of the more amusing popes. He started the crusades. People were often wondering about the commandment that said "Thou shalt not kill". Well, they couldn't have a Holy War without killing, right? So good ol' Innocent AMENDED the commandment to read 'Thou shalt not kill OTHER CHRISTIANS'. Sneaky, no? Moving on.
There's a quote I happen to like, and I'm going to pass it along. It sums my views on your next comment nicely.
It's not God I have a problem with. It's his fan club I can't stand.
I have nothing against your God. I really don't. I don't attack your religion, unless you attack my lack of one firsts. The ones attacking Christians and Catholics are not actually atheists. There has been a disturbing trend going about; people taking up atheism because they want to be rebellious. That is sickening. I really don't believe. They chose to ignore it. Whatever.
No one attacking Islam or Hinduism? Bull. The whole 'War on Terror' thing? Islam and Hindus are being attacked all the time. Racial profiling and all.
Buddhists are not really attacked... whenever someone tries, they simply shrug their shoulders and offer a prayer for your soul. It's hard to stay mad at that.
Atheists are not against Christ. They are non-religious. Hence the name.

Theism-Religion
That's just the way I put it together.
I don't make religious jokes. They're in bad taste.
I do, however, make a few connections between religion and DND... I'm not going to post them unless asked, as some people may find them offensive.
Atheists do not have an anti-Christ spirit. We really don't.
No. It's still not. I still don't believe.
That's just good luck and wicked foreshadowing.
Such is the word of the Elder.

Bzzt, incorrect. Atheism is the lack of belief in gods, not the lack of religion. Satanists are atheists. Buddhists are atheists.

Theos - Belief

Certainly. Though I simply can't let someone define "atheism" incorrectly, being a religious atheist myself.

Buddhists are atheists.

Theravada Buddhism anyway. Mahayana does accept the existence of gods.

you may now continue with your topic.

EDIT:
and a quick note, the correct translation of the sixth commandment is "you shall not murder", murder being the premeditated act of killing someone, thus the difference between someone who mugs a person in an alley and kills them and a person who accidentally bumps someone off a high cliff (and self-defense cases of course). i believe that the Hebrew word used in the passages of Deuteronomy and Exodus in "you shall not murder" will point to this.

Wiccan Clarinet
Wiccan here, too lazy to log out and log back in.

And as the resident Wiccan, it is finally my turn.

Here I go.

Appologies in advance.

I, personally, try my damndest not to attack religions. Any of them. Period. End of story.

The thing I find most disturbing about this topic is that you appear to take no responsibility whatsoever. Based on my own personal experiences, Christians are very bad at attacking people. You complain about atheists and what not attacking your faith, but you'd not believe how many times I have been attacked for my lack of faith. And I have a faith. Just to clarify this, I generally tell people that I am an atheist because it is far easier than attempting to explain what Wicca is. But I have been attacked by Christians, even in this very guild. Many people I have talked to have also had these same experiences. So don't try to play innocent. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that attack your faith, but there are just as many Christians attacking peoples' lack of faith. Another reason that your faith may be getting attacked could be that Christians are constantly trying to convert people. If you think that you should be left alone, then maybe your should try to do the same to those of us who are not of your religion (I say 'you' to mean the majority of your faith, not any one of you in particular).

To be completely, blatantly frank, you are just ignorant and naiive to think that other religions are not being attacked. Just after 9/11, a brown person could not walk down the street without being called a terrorist. Now, we all know that Osama Bin Laden was from Afghanistan, but that gave everybody from the Middle East a bad name. And that is because people are stupid and ignorant. It didn't matter if you were Afgani, Iraqui, Irani, Indian, or anything else from that area, you were discriminated against. And along with that sort of discrimination came the religious discrimination. Everybody assumed that every single person from the Middle East was Muslim, and Muslims were therefore discriminated against. I'd like to use an example here. About 2 years ago, there was some sort of holiday that involved the Middle East. On the day of this holiday, a newspaper in Canada printed a political cartoon that showed the Profit Mohammed (a religious symbol in this area) carrying and dropping bombs. This cartoon had the entire Middle East-Canadian community in an uproar, and it was banned. Now, are you honestly going to tell me that this is not discrimination and attacking of the religion?

Here's something to think about: Ignorance. I don't mean rudeness, I mean lack of knowledge. Maybe you (woebert) are ignorant to think that your faith is completely innocent. Maybe you are ignorant to believe that no other religion is attacked. Maybe people attack religions because they are ignorant to the religion. Here's another one: Fear. Maybe people attack religions because people naturally fear what is different. Maybe all Brown people are discriminated against because people fear that these people are all terrorists and will kill them. There are tons of reasons as to why people attack other peoples religions. But it is not only Christians that are attacked, and Christians do quite a bit of attacking of their own.

I concur. Especially about the religions being attacked. Every religion out there is attacked... except maybe Wiccans. In my experience, they are not attacked for the sole reason that no one understands them.
Wiccan Clarinet
That's because people are afraid that we are going to turn them into frogs, or something.
I wish.

Good call.
But seriously. I saw a study that said that of all the 'groups' in America, atheists are the LEAST trusted. Even less so than the homosexual/bisexual/trans-gendered group. You tell me that that is not attacking us. Please. I dare you.
Anyway. Moving on.
That's neither here nor there.
You understand our point.

Just one question, Hidden Path...
Can you cite an example, from your experience, of Christianity and Catholicism being attacked? If possible, please use names, or even assumed names. I would like specifics, if you can give them.
I'm not trying to be mean, or condescending. I ask only for information.
