I have loved the Battle Stars since I first watched it way back when (BBC2 in the UK I thing). This new one sort of reminds me of Babylon 5 and Earth Above and beyond . But I sadly did'ent have time to watch past the first season . But the few I have seen of last series have me wanting to buy the next boxed set.

Okay, I figure we should make this the official Battlestar Thread, and we can post talkbacks for each episode as they air (the same will be done for each series that gets a thread).

Season 3 Episode 18 The Son Also Rises

WARNING:SPOILERS AHEAD, MATEY! pirate

Synopsis:"When Baltar's representatives face assassination attempts, Adama asks Lee to protect Baltar's lawyer. After taking on the assignment, Lee seeks to play an active role in Baltar's defense."

I personally enjoyed this episode immensely, especially right after the devastating events of the previous episode (lord knows what they're planning with what happened to Starbuck), it was nice to see some of the main cast try to deal with such a massive loss.

I'm a big ol' Lee fangirl, have been ever since season one episode 7 (Bastille Day), and getting some more back-story on his relationship with his grandfather was awesome (on top of that, his interactions with the intriguing new character Romo Lampkin, Gaius's talented new lawyer).

I'm reeeaaally liking where they're headed with this story arc, and it was a great way to lead into the two-part finale.

fine episode, I enjoyed it very much. Lee is becoming an interesting character again (I've been a bit lukewarm about him lately), and being the Gaius fangirl I am, I'm waiting anxiously to see how the season's going to end with the plot going in this direction.

plz don't let Gaius die I will cry so many tears emo

I don't like the new one, it's far too gritty. What I watched always had Adama...I think it was Adama anyway...threatening to impose a military dictatorship, grousing about "civilians," and throwing his weight around. THAT'S NOT WHAT LORNE GREEN WOULD HAVE DONE, NO SIR

I mean, they always tried to do whatever needed done without 1. hurting anybody or 2. destroying anything in the original series. Except Cylons of course, but they're robots. They were like a cross between Star Trek's benevolent spacemen, and space gypsies.

Although cigar-chomping lady Starbuck was an interesting change. She needs to be more sexist and promiscuous, though.

You need to watch it without comparisons to the original, because they are vastly different. It's really a disservice to the show if you try and watch it with that mindset.

That's exactly the case for the new series as well. The whole point is that in incredibly insane life-threatening times, the decisions made to avoid "huring anybody" becomes really hard to find, when most of the populace is killed, and society as you know it is dissolved. Adama does what he thinks is the best course of action to protect the fleet from a military mindset, President Roslin makes her decisions based on a humanitarian focus.

This dynamic is tested and evolves throughout the series, showing the various conflicting feelings all the characters have on tough issues, and you even see Roslin change drastically into the third season (into a bitter, emotional monster).

You get tons of that. She's a total tough-as-nails sexfiend who has boi toiz she uses like tissues. It's awesome. pirate

Thing is, what I have seen came off like Triumph of the Will. An' I'm just not into that.
