It seems like, at least for the last few decades, warfare has been a particularly soldier-centric phenomenon. You see 'em shooting off artillery, patrolling for militants, sometimes playing soccer with kids.
But you see only that much. You don't see what it's like when they're not around, or particularly, what things are like for people who aren't explicitly "on our side."
(Hell, the impact of the war on the population of, say, Iraq or Vietnam is generally seen as a positive thing, while the details of what's so desirable are left to the imagination.)
Anyway, there is a lot of current-day political commentary there, and maybe even some conspiracy theorizing, but it's also got a lot to say about the other side of the fence that isn't just "those bastards! they kill guys!" - which is a good thing, I think. Not because there aren't any bastards (actually, DMZ is rife with bastards), but because it makes the picture bigger.
